I thought the exact same thing, but I noticed today that section 108 is blacked out. So, although it looks like it just a repeat of the seating map, there is a method to their maddness. Right now (not counting student section or other similar designated areas), every section except 108 has seats availble to be upgraded to. I'm sure there are other complications such as seats in some of those sections only available in pairs, and stuff like that, but overall there is only one section in the stadium blacked out after the completion of Zone 1.
This black out map thing isn't going so well.
I have four seat with two on the home side and two on the visitors side. Although my visitor side seats are on the 25-yard compared to about the 10-yard line on the home side, I must admit the sunshine is a big plus. Another thing I have noticed is that the big scoreboard is better viewed on the visitor side. Although the scoreboard it angled toward the home side, it sits closer to the visitor side and that closer proximity trumps the angle for better viewing. Although I'd consider an upgrade to my home side seats, I'll never give up my visitor side seats, never.
I guess sitting in the sun rules over sitting behind the Gopher bench on the home side.
Have the top halves of sections 215-218 always been for the visiting team?
Good, I hope more people move over to the sunny side to improve my seats behind the Gopher bench and out of the wind.
Go Gophers!
They did plan it out. sun plays almost no role during a day game.
My uncle has been looking to move from 1st row 109 to the top half of 108, but still hasn't heard back yet from the ticket office (we're actually low on the priority/GopherPoints list).. After seeing go4rube's graphic on what sections are full now, I'm surprised he hasn't heard back yet. Tomorrow we'll be calling in, we'd like to stay on the sunny side (visitors), and if we can't move up in section 108, we'll just might pay the extra $300 to move up in 109. His knees are bad and walking down to our first row seats is giving him issues. It doesn't matter to me were we sit, as long as we are at the game. I prefer not having anyone in front of me, but I can understand where he's coming from. Besides, if we move up, I will enjoy the better field view.
Formo, your Uncle should have received an email letting him know what zone he is in. Armed with that info, you will have a much better idea of when you will be called to see if your group wants to move seats.
I don't know what you're basing that on but I have sat on both sides during a warm and a cool game and there can be a big difference. The home side is DEFINITELY cooler in both situations. That can be nice when it is a little warn but when it is cool, the sunny side is definitely better. But I would agree that when it comes to night games, the sun plays no role.
When I picked there were much better seats on the home side. Everyone is moving across. I suspect this will continue. I'm really surprised they built it this way.
This makes me very happy, because I want to upgrade and stay on the home side.
More than half of the home schedule will always be played in August/September, so I will never understand why everyone needs to be in the sun.
