So he has a top 8 and his recruitment is still open? Not sure I really see the point to that update but I guess in the "look at me" world of social media you gotta put stuff out there.

I don't think it's a look at me world. This is actually how people put word out on their recruitment. If could simply be that a bunch of people are reaching out or asking and he is updating the top 8 at this point. It could trigger schools to leave him alone or ramp up their recruitment. It could make his life/recruitment easier. Easy way to get word on to 1,500 followers.

Is what it is.....the one part that seemed odd to me was naming a top 8 but emphasizing that recruitment is still open which to me would signify that while these are his top 8 right now that is subject to change which kind of makes the naming of a top 8 pretty pointless.

I get it more when recruits name their finalists in an effort to just focus on a couple of schools. But obviously kid can handle it all however he wants. Don't know anything about him but clearly we are interested so hopefully he ends up here when the dust settles.
 


Went through the targets page on 247 to see who is “warm” to MN. I think Burns does a pretty good job on it but at this point I think a lot of them are just based on OVs.

Either way, looking through I see a 6’2” WR from Texas that’s warm, Ferrygood. Unrated now but Im hoping the staff can land him I’m calling a Bateman level blow up for the kid.

Just calling my shot now.

Yeah at some point this is just how the game is played and people participate...

Also these teams are leaving the recruitment open and may all have different timelines and his spot could be gone at any time.
 


Unless something changes with Diane, I don't see PJ going after another DL recruit. The roster is stacked with DL players.
 

DL is set for now.

Could use a prospect like.him for a year ahead.

May he listing Minnesota as a coutesy, seems highly wanted elsewhere.
 



While we are talking defense, have to get this off my chest.

Who were the cranks hiighly criticizing Fleck for hiring "nobody" Corey Hetherman for defensive coordinator awhile back?

Answer: The same geniusus who.wanted the "somebody" Eric Musselma to be the next Gophers basketball coach.

So far we have DE, EDGE, RUSH END and LB playing the outside on the DL depending on the defense called. Does anybody have anymore names for this?

It reminds me of the real old days when I played hs football and played middle linebacker but switched to safety on passing situations and jumped into the defensive line on short yardage running situations.
 

Ombati DL from Shakopee has a Gopher official visit on May 29th. He’s now a consensus 4 star.

No we didn’t lose many to ISU, but Franklin at PSU landed a couple of the higher rated ones in recent years, I suspect Campbell may land some from time to time as well having more pull at PSU.

If Campbell is running the same defense they ran at Iowa State, they could be selling Betton on playing a specific role in their scheme that fits his skill set (This specific role that does not exist in Minnesota’s defense)

At Iowa St they ran a 3-3-5. In their three safety looks, the middle safety was known as the “star,” which took a hybrid safety/middle linebacker role (unlike a typical nickel that primarily lines up in the slot/to the passing strength). Betton would fit the archetype for this role.

For context, Marcus Neal played the “star” position for Iowa State before following Campbell to Penn State. Neal is 6’1” 215 lbs, and was 3rd Team All Big 12. He’d be a tweener in some defenses, but excelled in their scheme. Would not surprise me if they’re selling Betton on playing this or a similar role.

Granted, Campbell’s longtime DC Jon Heacock retired and he hired D’Anton Lynn as their new DC, so the jury is still out on what kind of defense they will run.

Interesting to see us listed as warm on the #2 and #3 guys in Michigan. We have pulled some good players from Michigan over the years but a little surprising to be in on the top guys. Last top 10 we got from Michigan was 2023 with DT.
