Official 2025 Roster Movement Thread - Who's In and Who's Out?

Email from the U says they signed 20 guys today, not 21. Haven’t had time to see who was the odd one out.
Maybe Trey Berry committed and signed after the email was already written?

edit: Looks like Pharmacygopher beat me to it.

Biggest position of signees...we signed 6 DL
With departures we have only Anthony Smith, Jaxon Howard, Karter Menz listed as our DL on the roster.
7 DL are departing...if we add one in the portal that would get us to the 10 number we had this year.
So, with one in the portal thats only 4 with college experience. Anthony Smith, Jaxon Howard, Karter Menz + new guy
Seems like we are vulnerable here? Probably 2 DL in the portal?
4 of our top 8 recruits are DL...evidently we think they can play as freshmen
Didn't Jalen Logan-Redding announce he was coming back????

Are you differentiating positions? Edge, DE, DT, etc.? Because I'm see more guys listed as DL on the roster. Might have missed some leaving but I see these all with eligibility still

Smith
Howard
Menz
Finnessy
Hicks
Owusu
Becker
Eastern
Sunram
Saine
Macy
JLR
Kissayi
Randle
I only quickly searched the roster by clicking the DL designation. Obviously, we got a ton more guys with your additions.

It'll be interesting as NIL develops if guys have to sign a legally binding return for the following year, makes sense RBs are transferring under assumption he's returning but could be a real dick move to then transfer out late in window
Didn't someone on the basketball team do this earlier this year?

as to Some Guy's post #86 -- the numbers may be off 1 or 2 in either direction, but in general terms, I think you're close. bottom line is that for every player the Gophers add through the portal (Fleck said it would be 10 to 15), that means that someone with remaining eligibility has to leave the roster.

reminder - the portal is open through December 28. so anytime from now to then, a player can enter the portal. and that is strictly to enter the portal. a player does not have to choose a new team during that window.

so I'm going to bet that we see at least another 10 to 15 players leave by the portal by the 28th. (as to whether they are leaving voluntarily, or they were "encouraged" by the coaches, I leave that to your imagination to consider.)

I'd anticipate that a few players leave the team but do not enter the portal. Stay at Minnesota to attend classes and get educated. Stay involved with the team in someway like as a manager. if the the roster size increases for 2026, they could reclaim a roster spot then.

To clarify, for bowl or playoff teams the portal remains open until 6 days after their final game, so this deadline will be extended for Minnesota until after the bowl game. We won't know the exact closing date until we know which bowl game they get.

That is a really good point. There are almost certainly some walk-ons on the team that would elect to just retire from football as opposed to transfer somewhere else.

Darius Taylor not going anywhere.

Always great to see stuff like this.....unfortunately in this current landscape it is tough to feel totally confident because I think it was Hawkins last year on the basketball side who said he was coming back before bolting.

Don't worry nearly as much about on of Fleck's guys pulling something like that so awesome to see Darius go public with his intentions to be back next year.

Added Tyler Stolsky. Wonder how much more movement we will see between now and the bowl game? Now that the portal window is open I would think we might start to see some incoming players as well.

Bring some DT and LB plus another QB to help get the team ready for the bowl.

Losing Lindenberg is going to hurt. I hope we can find a Gibbens type transfer LB in the portal.

For me, it was Jess Settles. It felt like that guy played against Willie Burton and Vincent Greer.

It's probably due to my own perspective. He played against guys I looked up to as a "kid" (Voshon Lenard) and they guys I played AAU/traveling against (Joel Pryz).
What AAU team did you play for?

I don’t think he’s officially announced he’s going to the League yet. I doubt he does but he could still come back.

Has Lindenberg said anything official or did he take part in senior day? I haven't seen anything to indicate he won't be back next year.

He did walk on Senior day. Probably has advisers trying to get scout opinions about NFL draft, combine invite.

Got it. Going to hold off on adding him until there is something official. Walking on senior day isn't always a guarantee that a guy doesn't come back.

I will be curious to see what he decides. He seems awfully similar to Gibbens in terms of college production. Gibbens wasn't drafted but has turned into a solid NFL player (hoping he heals fully from his bad injury vs the Vikes). I only bring it up because I thought Gibbens was a for sure draft pick, but wasn't (probably says more about my lack of ability to judge talent than anything).

It's always a crap shoot when you get into the later rounds of the draft. At that point it becomes more about what teams need so a player that is good enough to get drafted might not for a variety of reasons.

In some cases it is beneficial to the player to be and UDFA as opposed to a 6th or 7th round draft pick.

I think he’s gone. As I recall he agreed to play in one of the all-star games.

Fleck allowing guys to run of out of eligibility is both disgusting and disheartening. Lack of focus on his part, IMO.
