Official 2025 Conference Championship Weekend thread

random chaos scenarios could lead to ACC winner being out (if it’s Duke). Then JMU will get in as the 5th conference champ.

Think it’s a fascinating debate on the Bama, ND, Miami, Texas cut line. BYU is def out now
I personally think Oklahoma should be in that debate as well because I think they are very overrated.

Heartbeat for Bama, nice catch and TD run by Germie Bernard

Agree 100%. They’re going to get the loss to Texas written off because of mateers injury, which is dumb. But they’ve only got 2 losses and beat bama so they’ll get in the cut above

As much as I'd like to see Alabama out with that 14-pt loss to 5-7 FSU, I don't see how it will happen. They came in at #9 and of all schools / conferences will not be punished for winning the SEC tie breaker and making the conference title game. Lucky for them the teams under them all have some flaws of their own:

BYU clearly does not pass the eye test and lacks the elite win, Miami has two bad losses, Texas has the bad loss to Florida.

Top 4 seems pretty set. Barring some type of Heisman-sharing performance by both teams tonight in the game of the century, I'd be shocked if Georgia does not jump the loser even though that would not make any sense. I don't think OSU/IU will drop lower than 3 unless the game is another blowout, at which point they may drop to 4 but hopefully not any lower.

1/3: OSU/IU, 2. UGA, 4. TT
5 - 8: Oregon, Ole Miss, A&M, Oklahoma
9. Notre Dame
10: Alabama
11: Miami
12: Tulane

Hopefully I got all the rules right. :-0

you need the ACC champion to get in

top 5 conf champs. that's why that 9-11 spot gets dicey as 11 and 12 are Tulane and either JMU or Virginia

Should be run just like FCS. 24, all conference champs autobid, everything else at large and everyone seeded - no automatic seeding for SEC or B1G champs.

It is a play in scenario for Big 12 and ACC.

But yeah, SEC and Big 10 championship games are just for bragging rights. That said, there may be a first round bye on the line in the SEC game, I think Indiana and Ohio State get one regardless.

My personal opinion is there is a lot of recency bias in the CFP (or any) power rankings so Alabama getting destroyed and say, Indiana getting run off the field in similarly embarrassing fashion could reset everything.

8 was the right number of teams.

12 is too many. Bama, ND, etc. should not have a chance to be in the conversation, much less the playoffs. Make the season mean something.

16 teams will be a clown show.
I agree it should be 8, but they should just skip over 12 to get rid of the bye and go to 16 if they want to open the field a bit. The byes are simply a bad idea.

Is Alabama in the playoffs no matter what? I don’t believe conference championship losses should hurt a team if compared to teams that don’t play in one unless it’s a blowout.

The rationalization we heard in 2021 under a similar SEC championship outcome was the loser Georgia was holding something back, not really trying. Could be, who knows. They met again in the CFP championship and Georgia destroyed Alabama.

The byes are bad either way. A team could get beat up, or they could get complacent. I really don't like them at all.

Why is Duke left out? You have to be in the top 25?

Mendoza hurt on IU's first offensive snap

Edit: back in after one play out

Keep taking shots. They’re having trouble, just have to drop it in a little better Fernando.. can you hear the drums, Fernando? There was something in the air that night, Fernando…

Indiana looks better than anyone I’ve seen against OSU D this year.

They got the benefit of a weak PI call.
