Official 2022 Gophers Football Recruiting Thread: Links, Tweets, Videos, Rumors

Off topic, but the Game day experience was putting the GOPHER up when Nebraska was kicking FG's. I thought they couldn't do that anymore.
There's no rule against it.

You can't put anything up that looks like goalposts or distracting at the time they're kicking (at least that was what was proposed, not sure if it got accepted).

Gopher is actually to the side, not moving, not a goal post looking like thing.

Actually the Splash background they put up when we kick is WAY more like a goal post.

I think they just had to alter the approach

Really excited about Hoskins from Alexandria- He had 5 TD's last week against Elk River in a crazy one point game 57-56 game. Saw that Elk River tried to not kick the ball to him and when they did, he housed it.

Sounds like he was at the game Saturday.

Hard not to be impressed with the D-line development of the Gophers. I would imagine that would be very tempting to a young man to be a part of.

He is intriguing. You see it all the time in the college game where these undersized freak athletes can come in and be really disruptive. Hopefully that is what he does for us.

Isn't he originally from Chicago or another large metropolitan area? It is sounding like he is a hidden gem. I am glad that PJ Fleck was able to sell him on being a Gopher.

We are beginning to see more Gopher recruits who can contribute almost right away. This is a good sign for the program.

Fleck's class is currently 48th...10th in the B1G by points but 13th based on average. Not what I expected.

He's from Chicago, I believe he had a stop over in Mpls before heading further down 94

Undersized freak athlete DL = decent sized LB???

Makes perfect sense, when you consider that 247 makes money by selling recruiting news to users.

Sure, they do spend their own money to do their own evaluations, but again I think that's mainly for the fans. I doubt that coaching staffs rely on them.

If a particular athlete is no long a source of recruiting news, they have zero incentive to spend another second of time/money on the kid, including updating ratings or evaluations.
Spot on.

I spoke to some guys from Alexandria this summer at my son's basketball tournament. They raved about him and said seeing his athleticism, quickness, explosiveness in person is incredible. I agree that he will be a really good player.
Who can forget Rondel Moore blowing up Ohio State?

Class is full of guys with legit power 5 offers and interest. You can choose to get hung up on the ratings and be disappointed or you can be excited about the guys who selected the Gophers over other comparable universities.

OK. I can choose a lot of things.

A pet peeve of mine is when they are still raising the backdrop as the kick is happening. It happens ALL the time, and it has to be distracting. I think the people responsible for raising it are the only people in the stadium that are unaware a field goal is about to happen. It is completely unacceptable in my mind.

Also, why in the world do we need a field goal net? Let that ball go into the stands. If baseball and hockey can let fans be subject to 100+ mph objects, I think people can handle a football in the stands. That would be the coolest souvenir and those tickets would be more coveted.

Every program in the Big Ten could be holding spots for transfers.
Yep, but all transfers are not created equal. Just like with recruiting you have to find guys that can help you win games.

True, even OSU will take a guy if they think he will help. We are reinforced by Fleck's judgment so far. He got three great transfers before the dam burst this year. And he has five this season who have all made the team better.

If your kicker is looking up, you’re fucked. Head stays down as you follow through the ball, just like golf

#1 WR at Alabama is an OSU transfer. It’s not isolated.

Not sure he has many spots left, especially if those with extra years stick around.
One thing, which may or may not have already been clarified by the NCAA:

will each class's guys who are in their "extra final covid year" get to not count against the scholarship limit?

For example this year, aren't we up to around 90 scholly guys or so, because of that waiver for guys who would've normally been done after 2020 but got an extra season for 2021 because of covid?

Will that then apply to guys who should have been done in 2021, but have 2022 as an extra year? And so on?

Also, the new rule going into effect, where you get to go above the 25 new counter limit for the next season, up to 7 additional, for each transfer portal guy out of the program.

IE, if 7 guys use the transfer portal to leave during or after the 2021 season, we can have up to 32 new counters for 2022. Already have Dunlap and Wiley, and season isn't even over. After season over and then after spring ball there will probably be more.

Everything I have seen indicates that the suspension of the 85 scholarship limit was for one year only and the limit will be enforced in 2022 and going forward.

Says his

Bio said his Dad was 2nd round pick by Jaguars, coming out of DIi Augustana. If that is our Augustana it means he has some Minnesota blood in his veins.
There is an Augustana in South Dakota and Illinois so I don't think Minnesota comes into play unless his dad lived in Minnesota, which may be true, but I missed that if it is true. Only Augustana, in South Dakota, is NCAA division II.

This. Nebraska had a top 25 class in 2018 followed by three straight top 20 classes. Unless the coaching staff is underperforming by a ton in comparison to the rest of the league.....we're splitting hairs. The very tippy top teams are pulling in talent and athletes on another level.....but most teams past that top ten or so are pulling in guys that are interchangeable. Recruiting services are throwing darts at the board on a lot of guys.....so a couple points in a class average doesn't mean all that much. Fleck and his staff have done a good job of identifying guys that they think can play. It's all about getting potential and coaching.
