Official 2018 Recruiting Updates Thread: Links, Tweets, Videos, Stories, Rumors, etc.

Maxx Janes committed as a PWO. Really happy to get him in the boat. I think he'll contribute at some point.

Maxx.... where have I heard a name like that before?

Anyone know if we are done signing recruits for 2018? Seems like PJ wouldn't comment either way. With the transfers, it would seem that we still have a couple spots open in order to get to 85.

per Shama:

With the second of two national Signing Days coming tomorrow, P.J. Fleck’s Gopher football class of 2018 now has a composite ranking at No. 34 by 247Sports. That’s down from No. 27 but still second best in the Big Ten West behind No. 25 Nebraska. Ohio State is No. 1 in the website’s rankings.

Neb skyrocketted pretty fast with Frost... they were second to last in the B1G IIRC.

A recruiting class in the thirties is not too shabby.

It is amazing that PJF could pull off the early NSD and all the kids bought into it. I am happy that he did it.

The December 8th OV was a great festive affair with all the recruits and their families in town. It created a lot of feel good capital going into the early Dec. 20 NSD.

7th in the B1G and would have been:

11th in SEC
7th in ACC
7th in Big 12
5th in PAC 12

Looks like the PWO listing is starting to happen:

Are we in on any undeclared recruits that will be making their decision today?

As far as scholarships, I believe Fleck said Gophs are done. PWO list and additions is always interesting...more than a few have emerged as big-time contributors. Overall it definitely surpassed my expectations.

No real real surprises - All 12 PWOs are all on board.

Thank goodness for early NSD. PJ Fleck sealing the deal early on the 26 recruits was a good thing.

I agree 100%.

per Greder:

Although the Gophers signed their entire 2018 recruiting class in December and were quiet on the traditional national signing day Wednesday, P.J. Fleck was relaxed only in the jokes he told.

Minnesota’s head football coach still maintained a packed schedule. He finished an early afternoon meeting with general manager Gerrit Chernoff and ate a couple bites of tacos as he talked with the Pioneer Press for 25 minutes in his new corner office at the Larson Football Performance Center. Then he had another phone interview at the bottom of the hour.

“I woke up this morning and I said, ‘Is it signing day? Oh, it’s signing day,’ ” Fleck teased. “It was kind of a joke, and there was a lot of sarcasm involved in that joke, but it was odd waking up (Wednesday) morning and there was no pressure. There is no stress of who is signing, who are the boosters coming and what are we doing and where am I speaking?”

The Gophers signed a 25-member recruiting class during the new early signing period in December and were then able to get a jump-start on their 2019 class. Minnesota’s class ranked 35th in the nation and seventh in the Big Ten on Wednesday night, according to the 247sports.com composite order. The U also announced the addition of eight preferred walk-ons for 2018 on Wednesday.

“It’s been incredibly beneficial for our program,” Fleck said of the early signing window. “I think everyone has had their own way of doing it, and now I think everyone has their own way of what they are going to do in the future because of what happened this year. There are probably people that love it, and there are probably some people that hate it just like any rule or new implementation of a new process.”

per Dienhart's analysis:

P.J. Fleck continues to make noise at Minnesota. Gotta like his offensive linemen, led by Curtis Dunlap and Daniel Faalele, a 6-8, 395-pound native of Australia. WR Rashad Bateman could be a difference-maker. He was a basketball stud.

Go Gophers!!

Maryland keeps reeling in studs despite not having much on-field success in recent years. DJ Durkin landed gems in offensive linemen Jaelyn Duncan and Evan Gregory and DT Austin Fontaine. WR Darryl Jones is one to watch, along with under-the-radar WR Brian Cobbs. K Joseph Petrino can kick with both feet.

The Dodgers have a ambidextrous pitcher. Switch pitching/hitting has obvious advantages. Not so sure about Petrino’s ability.

Hopefully, Sapp is on the field for three years for the Gophers and realizes his dream of playing in the NFL. That would be more football than he has played in a long time. He obviously wants to play pretty bad.

If they do that every week they'll be nearly top 4 candidates in the nation!

The important thing is that the Gophers have an average composite rating of 0.8617 with their 37th ranked class in 2018. The Gophers have 24 3-Star and 2 4-Star Players per 247 Sports.

Silly semantics time!

Those numbers are nice now. They'll be important if they sign / the numbers are still there or better ;)

The DC Geography is in their favor, and plus it helps to have Under Armour be their big booster helping foot the bill for their new athletic complex.

They can draw from a very dense huge megapolis that stradles the Eastern Seaboard stretching from New England down to the Carolinas.

Dunlap and Reigelsperger had their ratings drop. If that ratings trend continues for them, they will be our lowest rated recruits.
