STrib: Gophers add two huge offensive linemen to recruiting class

The Gophers offensive line just got a lot bigger.

Curtis Dunlap, a 6-4, 368-pound guard, and Daniel Faalele, a 6-9, 400-pound tackle, teammates at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., announced on Twitter that they were verbally committing to Minnesota.

Both Dunlap, rated as a four-star player by recruiting-focused website 247Sports.com, and Faalele, a three-star player, were in the Twin Cities as part of the Gophers’ “eLITe18Palooza’’ recruiting event.

Dunlap, who withdrew his verbal commitment from Florida on Tuesday, is rated the sixth-best guard nationally in the recruiting Class of 2018. Dunlap also had offers from Oklahoma, Miami, Florida State and Georgia, among others. Dunlap is the Gophers’ highest-ranked recruit in this class and the second four-star player, joining wide receiver Rashod Bateman of Tift County High School in Tifton, Ga.

Faalele, a Melbourne, Australia, native who played varsity football for the first time this season, is rated the 27th-best offensive tackle in the Class of 2018. He also had offers from Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn and Arkansas, among others.

With Jason's commitment, here's the statistics for our class:
26 commits, # of 5 stars: 0, # of 4 stars: 2, # of 3 stars: 24, Average recruit score: 85.95, Points: 204.72
 

With Faalele, Dickson, and Dunlap, are we all done for 2018 (assuming all commits sign NLI)? Any players not expected to sign on Dec 20?

Given this is the 1000 time it’s been asked this week. No one as an f ing clue what the scholarship count and rules are.
 

Just how good must that IMG line be? 2 - 4 stars and 1 high 3 star. Looks like we are very much in on Brown.

Go to YouTube and see. Just search IMG football. You can see game highlights, technique tapes, drills, etc. It's HS football on another level.
Their line in 2016 alone was larger (on average) than the Atlanta Falcons.
 


Do people think landing all these big OL recruits will help our chances landing other highly-coveted OL recruits next year?

I'd like to have that problem vs not having these guys and wondering about landing next year's highly-coveted OL recruits.

I think it helps. Sure won't scare them off, not when most of there options are signing many 4 and 5* guys.
