'Tis the season for poaching, and to protect what you have from poachers between now and December 20.

Years ago wasn't there a gentleman's agreement that once a kid verbally commits that recruiting stops?
That seems to have ended in the last 10 years, or am I wrong on that?
Has poaching always taken place?

You betcha! It is just more intense now with the pressure to win with the current state of the arms race with enormous amount of money spent on facilities and coaching salaries.

Coaches can get fired for skipping a beat. They don't like PJ's zig-jag trend line. Restless fans demand perfection. They all want to be like Alabama. Before the Nebraska beat down, some folks are calling for PJ's head. Then, there is Nebraska emulating us getting into the coaching carousel. A new coach every two to five years. They still harken to the days when they were dominating the Big 8.

per Shama:

True Thompson, son of Gophers all-time leading rusher Darrell Thompson, is being recruited as a 2018 walk-on by Minnesota. True, an Armstrong High alum, is a wide receiver at Iowa Western Community College.

Nice to see bloodlines flowing back to the U. Too bad his brother Race opted to play BB for the Hoosiers.

Iowa Western Community College is like U of Minnesota's farm system. I love the relationship we have with that school.

PJ has said numerous times he is going to take a hard look at Gopher legacies. He said it again in the NW press conference. If the kid is on the cuff of being able to play here he is gonna find a way to bring him in!

+1

His next HS playoff game is Friday night at 7 and it looks like it will be online at GPB.org
Also nice that he wears #13, so Jon Celestin can turn the number over to another Georgia recruit.

I was going down my twitter feed, and the first thing that I saw was the note that Bateman posted. My heart immediately dropped because I thought he was writing that because he was decommiting. I'm very happy to see him confirm his status with the Gophers. A WR's corp of Bell/Bateman/Manns/Johnson should be a big boost for this team.

I feel like PJ should scour outstate MN to find the next Adam Thielen.

yup. I hear they're running around all over. Word has it that there is a kid from Cromwell that is a speed demon wr. I have no idea. Come on PJ, at least check on the next Adam Theilen.

Bottom 2 of the Big Ten isn't ho-hum, it's just bad.

PJ's current class composite average on 247 (uses multiple recruiting services, not just one that looks the best) is only ahead of Indiana, Rutgers, Purdue, and Illinois. So, yeah, he's really crushing it (not to mention a few weeks out from first signing day and no QB).

Also, PJ is recruiting off of a 9 win season in which they beat a top 20 opponent in the Holiday Bowl, and 4 8 win seasons in 5, bowl steak etc, new facilities. Kill had to start from scratch after Brewster tore the place down (an actual "year zero"). No success, no stadium, no facilities. Your comparison is pretty silly if you look at it somewhat analytically, IMO. The difference in resources is glaringly apparent.

I'll be the first in line to give Fleck credit for recruiting when we actually see some results. Thus far, it's lip service.

No stadium? What? Washington State was not ranked at all.

I didn't compare them, I stated a fact that being in the bottom two of the Big Ten is bad. I also stated that the rating is the highest since '08 on composite which, if you think about it is kind of sad considering there aren't any 4 stars in the class.

Also if Fleck got rid of a couple of players at the bottom his average would rise, so comparing averages is kind of stupid. I don't think that would make the class any better, do you?

Kill, Claeys, nor Brewster ever beat a top 20 opponent. More lies from you again I see...

I think you need to check the definition of lie, then re-read my post.

We're discussing recruiting here, hence the name of the thread. Maybe you're a little confused.

I did read your post. Washington St was unranked when we beat them. They weren’t top 20. That’s a lie, which you’ve done repeatedly on this site.
