Great game...3 min left...NDSU down 1...fighting for the automatic NCAA tourney bid!

NDSU is finally getting some bounces here and Oakland has gone cold. I hate "Lake Bison" but I will root for NDSU anyway.

Doesn't really affect us
Did anyone say it did? It's just a great game to watch...in addition to having multiple MN players and potentially NDSU's first ever bid to the Tourney. Quite a feat for a team that was D2 less than 5 years ago!

It doesn't affect us, however its good to see MN high school players having some success. Winkleman and Woodside have worked hard to get NDSU on the map and have been program changers over 4 years. Congrats to them both

Any win for any team that we have faced is good for the Gophers. Nontheless, it's a great game!

You can hate on NDSU all you want, but Woodside, Winkleman, etc. are just what college basketball is all about.

I hope Woodside lives through the stampede. Jeesh!!

Rico Tucker > Ben Woodside

(according to Dan Monson)

Monson is a genius... Woodside is going to the NCAA tourney. Tucker is picking splinters out of his ass from riding the Pepperdine bench.

What a great finish....It looked like they (NDSU) were way out of it....Great shot at the end by Ben. First year that they can be in NCAA March Madness & they're in. Nice local story.

I hate the end of game timeouts (no this isnt a westbrook-tubby rant).

Bobby Knight never called TOs in end of game situations because he believed that his team was always the better coached team and he had confidence that they would out execute the other team, all things equal.

I like to see that confidence that your team will get it done.

They're not local, but I'm willing to bet the Twin Cities media will attempt to spin the local angle like NDSU is located in the Twin Cities.

I agree with Art on this one. Pretty sure the local media will be salivating at trying to turn this into some kind of NDSU does it the right way versus Tubby's Gophers choking it away. Some of the programs on KFAN, such as PA, were already starting to chirp in about comparisons between the Gophers and Bison's seasons over the past few days.

It's kind of sad really....

I'm very happy for the Bison, for former NDSU coach Tim Miles and for all the players. It is a very good story.

And if either NDSU or Northern Iowa is here, they will be treated like the home team. Same with Michigan State or Kansas (but to a lesser extent because they don't have as many Minnesotans. If there's a team at the dome starting two Minnesota kids and bringing a bunch of fans, they are going to be the home teams.

Plus, NDSU has a ton o' alumni here.

That said, if the Gophers are in the tournament, they will be the top story.

Just think if NDSU, Wisky, and Northern Iowa all make the tourney...and we don't. Geographically surrounded on all sides by teams going to the dance, 'cept our rodents! We better beat NU on Thursday...

Well, they're located about 3 miles from the Minnesota border....with a large number of grads from the Twin Cites and greater Minnesota. That's 'local' to me.

Madison is the same distance away and have just as many, if not more alumni. Northern Iowa is just as close as well? Are they local too?

I don't mean to split hairs but Minnesotans absolutely love to find the local angle on everything. Yeah, NDSU has some Minnesota kids on their roster but so does Cornell, Kansas, and Wisconsin. I'm sure there's a Minnesota kid somewhere on the Northern Iowa roster as well.

Whatever makes the game more interesting is fine. I really could care less who is deserving of the hype. It's no skin off my back if the twins cities adopt NDSU for the weekend. Quite frankly i hope that they find an interesting angle on every team here. A successful outcome for the Twin Cities is what is most important. I'm pretty sure they're the most interesting story line, so it's fine if they're the chosen adoptee, should be good media mileage.

Yeah, but those teams don't have over half their roster comprised of Minnesota kids the way NDSU does. This would be a local story in every market in the nation, in relative terms. I mean if half of Southern Illinois' roster was made up of St. Louis kids and they played first round games in St. Louis, do you think the local media there just might cover that? Of course. Do you think if half of Creighton's roster was made up of Iowa kids and they played first round games in Des Moines that they just might cover that in Iowa? Of course. Or, what if half of New Mexico's roster was comprised of Phoenix kids and they played the first round in Phoenix. Do you think the Phoenix media might cover that? Of course they would.

The only thing more irritating than the media trying to find the local angle is the Minnesotans who somehow think digging for the local angle only happens in Minnesota. It happens everywhere. And, it is smart to dig for local angles.
