They should put Croft in only on obvious passing downs and force him to pass the ball, forbidding him from taking off and running with it. Some kind of bizarro Streveler.

Leidner is going to start this weekend, and maybe Croft will get a few series. This is the most winnable game on the schedule, and Leidner still gives them the best chance to win and gain some momentum going into the Nebraska game. Lose this game, the season's over and it's Croft's team the rest of the way.
How do we know this? How do we know if he gives us the best chance when Croft has yet to start? Will Croft fumble EVERY game like Leidner does? I highly doubt it. Will he be able to tuck the ball and make plays with his legs better than Leidner can? Most definitely. And Croft clearly throws a better ball than Mitch, Helen Keller could even see that on Saturday. Will Croft throw more int's than Leidner? Maybe but it's certainly not a given. I just don't know how it can be argued that Leidner at this point gives us our best chance of winning.

He doesn't. But they'll start Leidner anyway. These are coaches who ran 30-35 times between the tackles against Kent State (Kent State!) for two and a half yards a crack.

They'll both start.... One at QB and one at TE. Or they'll both line up at wildcat and the center will decide which one gets the ball... :rolleyes!

By watching them both play on Saturday. Croft definitely throws a better ball than Leidner, but he wasn't any more accurate. Croft definitely has talent and is the future at QB, but he didn't look ready yet. You could see why the coaches are hesitant to put him in the game. I just think it will take the coaches to 'give up' on winning anything significant this year before they start Croft full time. After one B1G game, I don't think they are there yet.

I don't think we should take much if anything from Croft's play on Saturday. Let's name him the starter early in the week so he can mentally prepare and give him first team snaps all week and then see how he does. We might actually score points.

ML, for all his faults has a lot more experience. This likely shows up in recognition and decision making.

How the hell did a thread mostly about starting Croft now, get hijacked so bad with a
pissing match about Nelson and Leidner and what happened in the 2013 season?

jayzuz...

I'll give you a hint - he has a family member/friend who posts on here and comes flying in anytime his name is mentioned on GH so he can talk about how he is a victim of everything: coaches, fans, in Mankato, etc. etc.

But his experience hasn't made him better yet. He's a turnover machine as well.

There fixed it.

wow what great BCS football mind.

my single drum that i banged for 2 years was get a different starting QB than Leidner. I know many of you here believed the coach babble and feel a bit hurt...maybe even a little lost but it'll turn out ok.

He is now. RS is burned.

Highway, I normally agree with your wisdom but without a healthy O line, nobody is going to do a darn thing at QB. Croft can run around a bit better and get sacked just like Leidner. Leidner has yet to operate with a real O line this year. You cannot argue he is a winner.

Why Liedner has shown he can have a good Quarter or two he just hasn't put a full game together. No, to be fair, he looked good throughout most of the Missouri game, but he was healthy for that. Too bad the Running game didn't show-up. Now with Leidner either hurt or the staff refusing to let him make much of the effort running the ball his usefulness as a QB just isn't there.

No, the staff has yet to recruit any QB that has shown he deserves to be a starter in the Big Ten. That's their biggest failure. Thinking they've had the guy and let him go is somebody else's failure.

IMHO at least.

it seems to me Mitch throws passes to covered receivers who have no chance of catching the ball. He is slow to decide when to scramble and always gets sacked when if he had any quickness or moves, he'd be able to move around and make a play. The worst thing is the wounded duck he puts up that makes Bud Grant salivate. Then on a windy day his ducks really go wild.

I'm not a big fan of Croft but he throws a tight spiral. Let him start without bligtzing every down and see what happens. But Jerry is an old Kansas conservative who reminds us of Murray at times. God forbid he punts on 3rd down

I'll be just fine when ML7 leads us to victory on Saturday

Croft can play this year alongside Mitch. If Croft somehow plays worse than Mitch, Leidner will be the guy again next year, Poljan and Croft can redshirt next year. Perra can be the backup and after Mitch graduates we can have a full on quarterback competition between then redshirt freshman Tony Poljan and redshirt sophomore Demry Croft. If Croft plays better than Leidner for the rest of the year, he is the guy here on out.

I love this. 2 years as the sole voice of reason in a sea of ignorance. Of course it would stand to reason that it would fall to you to be the first to rush in with congratulations for yourself. It's got to be tough to be so ahead of your time.

I cannot tell you how long i have waited for the recognition of my GH brethren.

Kill just confirmed on KFAN that Leidner will start this week.

Where is the Croft hype coming from? His offer list was underwhelming at best, recruit ranking was somewhat middle of the pack, and he made as any dubious throws against NW as he did decent ones. Is it just because he's a freshman befitting from the fan induced backup QB bump?

Win, lose, or draw, I don't need to see Leidner play another down.

He can still redshirt.

Honestly?

He's not Mitch Leidner.

I heard some say he probably would have had more offers if he didn't commit so early. There were rumors Penn St. wanted him late in the process.

Even so, if he was the savior some here purport him to be he would've gotten some kind of attention from decent programs. Looking at the list, he would be a great get... at N Illinois.
