Not-So-Happy Transfers

It's not the worst college football scandal ever, because it's not a college football scandal.

"Brennan Franklin, a linebacker with scholarship offers this past winter from the likes of Wofford College, Eastern Kentucky and Robert Morris, leaves home Friday for State College, Pa., a journey that casts him as a symbolic figure in the worst college football scandal ever."

Maybe it's time to retract all those statements about "they'll be fine," and "they'll be back on top in no time at all". PSU is sunk...

This idea that there will 107k fans there I think is hogwash. Have you ever seen the huge number of emtpy seats there are in that stadium when PSU was down in the early 2000s. A lot of friggin' empties. I only see that increasing with poor football peformance over the coming years. Especially when they play Purdue or Eastern Michigan or Northwestern or even Minnesota. Teams their fans don't care about.

That said...i wish the young man well. Academically it is a great school...and nice campus. That is what he should focus on ...rather than being disappointed in the attendance.

I agree with you 99% of the time but I don't understand the logic of saying that its not a college football scandal. People looked the other way because they wanted to protect the image of the football program. Had Sandusky been a Biology professor he wouldn't have received the same treatment.

I can see the debate as to whether or not the NCAA had jurisdiction to give sanctions but in my mind there is no doubt that its a college football scandal.

Was the sexual abuse(and subsequent cover-up) in the Catholic Church a 'Religion scandal'?

Actually you're wrong once again. The coaches are part of a "college football" team.

Not sure if that is supposed to be a rhetorical question but given that Catholicism is a major religion I would qualify it as a "religion scandal".

Let's try it this way. If a couple of real estate agents at Century 21 abuse children(and their co-workers help to cover it up) is that a real estate scandal?

BTW Century 21 is a major real estate company.

In this case, it would not be Century 21 real estate agents and co-workers, but rather employees of the highest positions covering up the abuse. And furthermore Century 21 would then have to have a larger governing body insurance association. And if the heads at Century 21's image is tarnished, the association would be as well. Semantically speaking, this is not a "college football scandal," but associationally speaking, it is. And Penn State football leadership represents not just Penn State football, nor Penn State employees, but also NCAA college football, and NCAA employees. Just my (rare) two cents.

Do you do stretching exercises?

The answer to your question would depend on three things....location, location, location.

As noted above, Justin Brown is gone.

- Ross Douglas (decommit to Michigan)
- Ryan Nowicki (Ill)
- Rob Bolden (LSU)
- Tim Buckley (NC State)
- Khairi Fortt (Cal)
- Silas Redd - (USC)
- Kevin Haplea - (Florida St.)
- Jamil Pollard – Rutgers
- Anthony Fera - Texas
- Justin Brown - Oklahoma

Depth and talent will be issues for PSU. We'll see how good their defense is without Redd running the ball, scoring TD's, and helping to control the clock. It'll be interesting to see if their are anymore last minute transfers before Monday.

Yes, because priests used their position of trust as part of a religious organization to gain access to children. Just as Sandusky used his position of trust as part of a football program to do likewise. And in each case, the leadership hierarchy failed to act to protect the "image" of the organization.

If real estate agents had a special place of trust and respect in our society that allowed them access to children, then, yes, it would.

Penn State's leading returning receiver right now is a fullback. These losses are coming off the 95th ranked offense...

Based on the last 20 years of play the BIG GUY has had Notre Dame under sanctions long enough. Geez, You thought the NCAA was tuff!

Spot on.

Not sure if this is new, but your list is missing Greg Webb who decommitted for UNC (per http://www.sbnation.com/ncaa-football/2012/8/1/3212494/penn-state-football-roster-players-leaving).

PSU, former helmet school.

Zach Bradshaw decomitted for 2013. Possible Michigan State recruit.

"The deciding factor was the magnitude of the sanctions," his father, Mike Bradshaw, told ESPN.com. "With the loss of scholarships, PSU will be competing in the Big Ten against some of the best teams in the country with 65 scholarship players. The class Zach would be a part of would really bear the brunt of the sanctions."

Go Gophers!!

From the same article Bleed linked above.

OT Dorian Johnson also gone. No. 27 in ESPN 150. It will be interesting to see whether or not Hackenberg stays committed to PSU.

Is there a specific date to which the current players have to decide to leave with all eligibiltiy/transfer benefits or is it open ended? There are obvious benefits of leaving sooner, but curious if someone could leave mid season or next season.

I believe they have one yr to transfer without restrictions. I assume it is 1 yr to the date of NCAA announcement, since it was so close to the start of practice for this season.

I'm sure someone else can be more specific.
