Sure those GPA marks attained recently as best ever are by cheating. "No! Not saying that" ?? Oh, you are saying all of our present
athletes scored in the 30's on their college entrance tests. We have not accepted any border line students who have accomplished the work on their own to achieve those overall GPA's. "Not saying that either?" Oh, well then Jerry Kill and Pitino achieved these marks by cheating.
"Not saying that either?" Yup, NCAA says Gaston qualifies and Pitino feels he's capable but you guys think Pitino and Kill are on a path to cheating if we let Gaston into school...that summarizes you two guys right? That's what I read you are saying?

What? No, I'm saying admissions is doing their job and their word is final. Pitino's job is to coach basketball, not work in admissions. Admissions is needed as a check against coaches just doing whatever they want. I'm pretty sure the administration in the admissions department has forgotten more about what it takes for a student to be successful in college than you, me, and Pitino will ever know put together. People want to assign some nefarious motives because of this one singular incident. It's ridiculous.

I'm with you 60's guy. This is major college athletics. We should go by the rules- absolutely. But the bottom line is that this appears to be a case where we would have been well within the rules and this kid could be in class and on the court right now and it would not have hurt the university one bit to do so.

Bingo.

This is all simply a power play by a young and hungry coach. It's more about laying the groundwork. Pitino is applying pressure publicly (for future recruits likely much more talented than Diedhiou) by saying he expects to get anyone he wants as long as they're cleared by the NCAA. Doesn't matter (to a lot of people, apparently) that something similar -- a signed basketball prospect not getting in -- hasn't happened in more than 10 years.

He's done a masterful job of applying the heat to admissions and any other departments potentially standing in his path. Not real keen on how he's going about this, but I understand where he's coming from. Pitino is a young coach early in his career, and he wants to climb the ladder as fast as he can. That's not uncommon.
