Northwestern Fires Pat Fitzgerald

Yeah, it’s baffling. One of those scenarios where it is hard to understand how anyone would even want to be the hazer.

What, you don't enjoy dry humping another physically restrained male??

Let the PJ rumors commence
Nah, nobody who has a job wants that one. They gotta find a young mid level up and comer desperate to get to a seat at the table. NW has too many handicaps, too hard to win for anybody who has a power conference job already.

FCS?

I would presume since the first inklings of this came out that Fitzgerald's agent and attorney were in negotiations with Northwestern.
I do not know what his contract says but if it is about $4-5 mill a year and he gets two years of the eight years remaining. Eight to ten $mill minus agent and attorney's fees in addition to all he was paid during his years as HC means he could live very well indeed without working another day the rest of his life.
Will he be liable for knowing but not stopping the harm players suffered from the alleged hazing?
Time will tell.

Chryst or Frost?
Chryst, I don't think wants to coach....he already got paid. Frost always seemed shifty to me but he'd probably be willing to interview. I wouldn't hire him but your best chuckle candidate, probably.

If he got his alcohol intake in check he could still be a good coach (from what I’ve heard from my Lincoln sources)

Seems like a perfect time for Ol Jer to return to IL and turn some boys into men.

Athletic story
The Athletic story is mostly quotes from the President. This guy is in way over has head. His logic, his steps to decisions, his conclusions are just baffling how this man is in this position.

"Additionally, Schill wrote that the hazing “was well-known by many in the program, though the investigator failed to find any credible evidence that coach Fitzgerald himself knew about it” and that Schill recently learned many details of the independent investigation, and spoke with the complainant and his parents.
He read the report and talked to the whistle blower AFTER announcing Fitzgerald's two week suspension. Just a lot of head scratching steps and conclusions he comes to.

“I encourage all of you to rally around the young men in our football program as they take the field this fall." You know, the guys who did the hazing. All is well, that ends well. Boys will be boys.
Carry on.

He'd definitely take the call. Get a 4-5 year contract for $20 million, have a 24-7 driver written into the contract.

He's only 2 years into a 10 year contract, wow, crazy.

Does he get to keep the other 8 years worth?
If you’re fired for cause, no. They likely negotiated a payout.

Jerry has his own hazing going with different shirts he makes guys wear.
"Early in his tenure at Minnesota, Kill raised eyebrows with some of his disciplinary tactics, which included forcing players to practice while wearing brown or pink shirts that read, “Minnesota Loafers” and “I let my teammates down.” It was punishment for any conduct Kill considered detrimental to the team, from skipping class to showing up late to team meetings."
Probably also not the perfect transition.

Wouldn't be surprised if literally the entire team transfers after their joint statement. Or refuses to play until AD is gone or coach is back

Just a “tad” different on the hazing scale.

1000% but not a topic you want to be addressing at Northwestern at the press conference in two weeks. There are too many other guys without the skeletons...to me it is relevant in this situation.

I'm a believer that he caught lightning in a bottle at USF...got extremely lucky and parlayed it into the Big Nebby payday. Don't think he is very good as a HC.
They just found a way to lose games. They were never really completely incompetent

I wouldn’t be surprised if he is Bama OC at some point and is another reclamation project of Saban. He probably has to win at the non P5 level to get a P5 job again though.
