Noreen's Scholarship

Noreen gave them a shot of energy but I don't think MN has any regrets taking Chip and Oto.

I have never seen Oto play so I have no opinion. I'd rather have Hollins, Walker, and Armelin. But Ahanmisi or Elliason, absolutely not!

If Noreen is to play in 1 or 2 Final Fours over the next four years, then Huggins will have to drastically increase the level of talent on that roster. If Huggy does that, then Noreen will likely end up being a bench guy. As you said, could be worse, but I don't see him as a major contributor on a Final Four roster.

Noreen gave them a decent shot in the arm against MN. But, that was his first action in ANY game in Puerto Rico. Huggins has played the kid in only two of the four games so far and for a grand total of eight minutes. He could develop into a nice player, but as of now, he is a bit player at best for West Virginia, and will likely remain that if that program ever gets back to the level of last year's Final Four team. Noreen was the only recruit from the Class of 2010 that made it onto the roster. Huggy will need to add additional parts and he likely will.

Huggy already said that Noreen is nowhere near strong enough. I don't expect to see him get many minutes this year. What happens next year will partially depend on how successful he is in the weight room. Given that it's Huggy, it will also depend on defense. I never saw Noreen play, so all I have is hearsay, but the hearsay is that he didn't put much effort into defense. If that's true, then I can see why Tubby would take a pass. And I suspect that if you don't play defense for Huggy, all you're going to get is a few offensive sparkplug minutes a game.

no way i would trade Elliott for Noreen

There's no way I'd take Elliott over Noreen. Neither will have a major impact anytime soon so time will tell. Not gonna personally attack Elliason but just like I Noreen better. But as someone mentioned with all of the undeserved negativity Noreen has endured in MN he's probably better off not playing for the U.

Eliason Is Better C But Noreen Maybe Better Scorer At F

Huggins signed a skinny 6-8 HS quarterback (yes, football QB) from Middletown OH in 1995. He took a redshirt year and spent many hours in the UC weight room. He was a key member of the powerful UC team (led by Kenyon Martin) in 2000.

Maybe Noreen will follow in Ryan Fetcher's footsteps under Huggins.

Noreen will have a fine career, the kid has a great skills and a great nose for the game.

As to the "Hmong academy" crack, I compared Noreen's and Cody Schilling's HS schedules once and Noreen played like 4X more games against schools above Class A than Ellsworth did. Yet Cody's scoring record was golden and Noreen's was junk.

People just loved to hate Kevin Noreen. Don't know why. Why would he have wanted to play college ball here? Don't know why.

That may be true but you also can't overlook the fact that most of the Class A teams Noreen played against were some of the worst in the state. I'm sure there were some bad teams that Schilling faced as well, but not to the degree that Noreen's opponents.

Absolutely Noreen is so much more versatile than Eliason.

As to Noreen's D, in high school he did what most great athletes do, he waited to get the block or the steal rather than just hunker down on denying his man or whatever. So sure, he's got to get into the mindset of playing position, team D. Same as every other star in HS.

It seems to me that Noreen should be compared to Oto rather than Eliason.

Eliason looks to me (limited to Canada games on Internet TV & Tubby tipoff) like he could be another Colt 45 as long he gains some weight. Completely different IMO from Noreen.

I am a Noreen fan from his HS Stats and a couple TV HS Tournament games.

I have seen Oto at Tubby Tipoff and a couple Youtube clips. Noreen and Oto look a lil similar in playing style and physical build. I would be happy with either one. However, Tubby said he is the expert and pays no attention to 1 star or 20 star recruits. I'm with Tubby.

I like what I saw of Oto at the tipoff and also for that matter, I liked what I saw of Chris Halvorson who walked on here from Valpo. He nearly won the Slam Dunk contest IIRC but Trevor jumped over Tubby's bike and that sealed the deal. I see he won the slam dunk contest at the MN HS All Star basketball series.

Great minds think alike - just that mine might be a lil slower.

I just noticed Nadine has an interview with Halvorsen from yesterday at the top of the G-Hole website.

Kevin is a good student, but from people I have talked to; his ACT was not 35 or even in the 30's. It was high 20's, which is still very good. One of the rumors I heard was that he had a perfect score, so I'm not sure where the 35 talk came from, but I have heard it plenty of times. However, he is a good student and should be very proud of his academic success.
