Nolen and Westbrook???

I have to agree. TT is a troll as is GopherRicky.

Why do the Aggies suck? Did you watch the game. Maybe they don't suck, but the better point would be that they're just not very good and neither are we. You know things are bad when people are trying to justify losses against terrible teams like these. Justifying a loss to Portland? CLASSIC!

Thanks for the in-depth analysis on A&M. Your point is that you have no point, but who needs things like points and logic and lucidity.

No one I've read is Justifying losing to anyone, just not falling into a panic and dooming the coach and team. I agree that the Gophers could have been ranked too high at the start of the season, especially without some key guys from a pretty amazing recruiting class. But that's why you play the games. Pre and early season polls are generally inaccurate anyway.

The POINT is that this is a young growing team guided by someone you would want coaching your son. they're fun to watch, maddening sometimes, but enjoyable. There are many reasons Tubby will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. On-court success is the primary obvious one, but we are getting a chance to witness the nuances of a great coach. His integrity, his desire to teach lessons that will aid these players long after people like yourself stop ranting about them. I think it's pretty cool stuff. AND he's turning in 20 win seasons.

I don't repeat myself over and over like you do on each thread saying that you think Portland and Texas A & M suck and that we will likely be an NIT team.

Your response to why they suck is asking if I watched the game? Haha, yes, I did, does that mean you can tell how good a team is by just watching one game? So if someone watched us play Louisville last year they would think we were pretty damn good and that Nolen's a star, but if they watched us play Portland this year, they would think we're pretty bad. "CLASSIC!" is your evidence to support you claim that Texas A & M sucks.

We all know what you think too so why do you keep posting?

Does anyone have any insight yet as to what happened? Just seems bizarre...

Lets just say despite Lawrence Westbrook losing 30 or so pounds in the offseason, he failed to lose any of his ego or selfishness. His constant complaining about lack of touches had the whole team furious and Al Nolen took a stand, much to the chagrin of Mr. Westbrook. I'll let your mind go wild on what happened after that...

So you're implying they got into a fight?

Shovel the dirt please, whaddya got?

Alright, yes Al and Lawrence got in a fight after the Portland game. It was a culmination of many things but pretty much the whole team is fed up with westbrook's selfishness. Recently Lawrence's dad has decided that it is a good idea to go to practices and yell for his son to get the ball more and isn't shy about letting his feelings known. And during the film session Saturday, westbrook decided to take things into his own hands and made constant references to his lack of touches. But anyways after the team was done looking at film, Al stood up and pretty much said that he knew he was going to get in trouble for saying this but that the whole team was sick of Westbrooks comments and that he just needed to shut up and play. As you can imagine LW didn't like this very much so he immediately got into Al's face and got physical. So, to make a long story short the fight ended pretty quickly and the punishment was only a half for the two of them.

Interesting insight! Thanks GopherNation5.. Anyway you want to tell us your connection or how you found out this info?

Wasn't there an issue with Westbrook's dad in LW's freshman year?

IIRC there was a report or two about Westbrook's father coaching from the stands during the pre-season in Westbrook's freshman year. And that was followed by rumors that Westbrook would transfer at the end of the year. It was reported that Westbrook opted to stay after Tubby was named coach and reached out to Westbrook and father.

There were reports of Tubby providing a lot of support to Westbrook when his brother was seriously injured in a car accident. At that time, Westbrook's father was appreciative of Tubby's style. (see 2008 article)

Seems like a case of "what have you done for me lately" on the part of the Westbrooks.

I miss ripped Westbrook. Even Nolen isn't intimidated by skinny Westbrook, this never would have happened last year.

Wow, thanks for the insight GopherNation5...definitely more of a scoop than anything else I've seen or read. If that's how it actually played out, kudos to Nolen for his efforts.

Whose Your Coach vs Whose Your Daddy?

I saw Westbrook taking instruction from the stands during the tourney games (Butler, Portland, Texas A&M) as well. Can you say "Kris Humphries?" (without the obvious height advantage)

I agree. Obviously, you have quite an inside story. How unfortunate though. A house divided will fall. Great leadership being demonstrated by Al. Good for him.

A possible side effect of rapid weight loss can be increased irritability.

Lol. Let's hope the LW's desperation doesn't turn too ugly and it affects the team in a negative manner. Maybe it already has.

I know I can be accused of piling on here, but does anyone remember the report from this summer about the Pulley League and how all of the players were here except Westbrook, who was working out with a personal trainer somewhere out west? When I read it at the time, I had an uneasy feeling, but I didn't want to post my thoughts because I thought it was too baseless to transfer that to "Westbrook's not involved or cares about the team".

Unfortunately I'm afraid my instinct after reading that comment was accurate. While its often thought that having returning seniors to a team is a great thing, it seems on occasion it becomes a detriment, as said senior(s) become so focused upon "getting theirs" in hopes of gaining the attention of pro scouts.

The sad thing is, I would think that the best way an undersized shooting guard with average/mediocre ballhandling skills could create a niche for himself and gain the attention of the pros (whether national or overseas) is by playing tough defense, being a solid teammate, contributing to a winning culture. If Westbrook commits himself to leading the Gophers and being a cohesive member of the team, it would seem that would stand out to talent evaluators much more so than what we've seen thus far this season.

Thanks for typing everything I was thinking. :)

If the story about LW taking coaching from dad and uncle are true they've taken things into their own hands. That can't end well. Especially with Tubby's emphasis on playing team basketball.
