There are over 25 of us in the chat room that can't figure why Tubby hasn't played them. Does anyone know?

AKatz said they were being "disciplined"....they'll be available the 2nd half....Westbrook in now...Nolen also in....

I dunno why they sat in the 1st half, but I wish they would have done something worse and been suspended for the whole game cuz they were terrible

So

Nice senior leadership there Westbrook

Both are painful to watch. Come on Cory Joseph--you can start as a true freshman if you come here.

Myron just tweeted this:

Westbrook and Nolen missed first half because of "internal, attitude-type thing," Tubby Smith says after the game.

Makes more sense, I don't know how they'd miss curfew or really get into trouble in one day, when the team went to Disney together.

my educate guess is they missed a curfew

I heard Nolen in an interview in preparation for the tournament say that he had never been to California before. Maybe he took a wrong turn on Ventura Blvd.

Thank Tubby for his integrity. This team is going to go through some rough spots but it's nice to know there is someone running things that considers discipline as a prerequisite to winning.

Talked to Mrs. Maturi during and after the game, I made the comment that it might have been different had we had the whole team for the entire game. She just smiled and said sometimes you have to be a teacher. Talked with both players after the game, both seemed to be upset with the defeat. Both thanked us for coming out in support of the team. Tubby also thanked us for coming out, said we had great fans and also said the team would be OK. He was on to the next game already.

What? You mean Tubby hasn't given up on the season??

I posted this on another thread after the Portland game.

Quit the bickering and play the game like it is supposed to be played.

I thought the team played better against Butler, when Nolan was benched after the technical. It also seems to me that the second team out plays the first team often. Perhaps the second teams point guard should be with the first team to make our starting offense run better.

Tubby needs to address the issue of the ego problems on this team. If some of the players don't want to play as a team sit them down for awhile so they can see what playing as a team looks like.

Might these two examples point towards the two guards who accumulated some splinters?

I like the call to sit them if it was for those types of transgressions. The change in culture was the biggest difference I noticed when Tubby started winning some games with Monson's players. If we sacrificed a game early to send a message, then so be it. I bet he'll have their attention this week in practice and in Miami. I got the impression during the end of Monson's tenure that some guys were bigger than the program. I don't think Tubby is beyond burying that kind of attitude on the bench, especially if they don't defend. He has the depth to do so.

What? You mean Tubby hasn't given up on the season??

I doubt any coach has given up on the 2010 season at this point.

In 2001 season, Tubby's team started 3-5. He didn't give up then.

They finished as SEC co-champs, SEC tourney champs, and earned #2 seed in NCAA.

Awesome! That and bus ticket will get you.......on a bus.

Did Tubby ever take a ranked team into a holiday tournament and drop 2 games he had no business losing?

Another stupid comment by you, imagine that! I never knew Minnesota had fans like you.

Yes, that very season, UK lost 2 preseason tourney games that "should" have been won.

What? It was a legitimate question. I'm just wondering and I haven't memorized Tubby's Wikipedia entry.

Does anyone have any insight yet as to what happened? Just seems bizarre...

We all know you think that, no need to keep letting us know. Why exactly do the Aggies suck though?

Whenever teams smartly start to spread their defense and guard against Portland's 3-point shooting, Portland will quickly start sliding down the ladder. As for Texas A&M, I've heard some good things about them already this year. They might be for real. Consider that, even though the Gophers shot poorly in both of those games, and, IMHO, played stupid defense against the 3-point shot in both games, they still only lost to both teams by a combined 6 points.

The sky is NOT falling.

Portland sucks. So does A&M.

Texas A&M is pretty good. They won 25 games two years ago and 24 games last year. Mark Turgeon's record in three years at A&M is 54-22. Tubby's record here in three years is 46-27. A&M has been to four straight NCAA tourneys. They are one of only six schools to have won at least one NCAA tourney game in each of the last four years. Seven of their players were Top 100 recruits. They probably deserve to be in the Top 25. Losing to them is not an embarrassment.

Portland is sneaky good. Sure, teams could begin to defend the 3-pt shot against more aggressively, but that opens up the middle for their big German, who is pretty good around the hoop. They will be in the NCAA tourney. Wouldn't surprise me to see them finish with a record like 24-5 and a Top 50 RPI.

Doesn't mean we shouldn't have won both games, we certainly could have. We didn't. Too bad. Losing those two, though, shouldn't cause you to lose your freaking mind, dude.

We all know what you think too so why do you keep posting?

Why do the Aggies suck? Did you watch the game. Maybe they don't suck, but the better point would be that they're just not very good and neither are we. You know things are bad when people are trying to justify losses against terrible teams like these. Justifying a loss to Portland? CLASSIC!
