Nolan Groves

He would have been a nice get by all accounts. That said, what we need is a couple bigs and a sharpshooter. My guess is that we will get them.
You can take both. Ben laid no groundwork for #1 in 2025 and 2026. Didn’t even offer them. Grove a little understanding as no one was in on him until late. Wiggins has been a stud for multiple seasons

It sucks as we have room on the roster for multiple players yet.

Well, I'm kind of baffled. Why schedule a visit to Minnesota if you are not interested? If you are interested...make your decision after the Minnesota visit. If Texas Tech is saying...you leave without accepting and we are giving it to someone else...I'm saying see ya to Texas Tech.
Minnesota may have offered more money at the eleventh hour...Groves may have liked the Gophers plan for his development/playing time better than TT...he might have connected with the staff better....mighta thought being 45 minutes from home was better.
He's got nothun' to compare TT to...feel bad for him and decision process.
I got no idea how good he is...have not watched highlight one...just don't like his thought process in making a decision.

This will come off as sour grapes but when I checked his Twitter I was surprised at how he pretty much had only retweeted Mr. Basketball content the last few months, including retweets of people campaigning for him. Then he commits before his MN visit he scheduled. That combined with hearing he wants a greener pasture/“sexy destination”…don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

Nothing sexier than Lubbock Texas.

Nothing sexier than Lubbock Texas.
If you’ve lived in MN your whole life I can see how a warm sunny state far away can seem like it is exotic and interesting while the hometown school just down the street is not.

I thought his fake interest in Wisconsin and Minnesota was curious, too. What was the point? The only point could have been that he was going to let them make their pitch, shoot their shot, host him for a visit. But it wasn't even that. Even a charade needs a motive.

The cynical side of me thinks that it’s an ego thing. A month ago I had no P5 offers and now look at all the teams that think I’m really good. Most likely he had his heart set on TT but wanted to have a contingency plan if they didn’t offer what they promised in their recruiting but they seemed to follow through with whatever that was.

Maybe leverage?

"This other schools are really interested too, if you want me, make your best offer."

No question it's me. Sid had a lot of friends.
I went to a Gopher baseball playoff game years ago with a friend of mine who had played for the Gophers baseball team. He pointed out Sid when he walked past us. I asked him what Sid was really like? He said, if you were someone Sid wanted to talk to, or had something Sid needed, he was your best friend. If you weren’t in one of those categories, he didn’t know you existed!

I got a picture with Sid on the field at the Bank, right after a Gopher Spring Game.

Must be you...lol.

All I did was walk up behind him and yell his name?
I had my kids take a picture with Sid after a spring game. We did it so fast I don't think Sid had time to say no. I then had to explain to my kids who Sid was.

Because he visited Texas Tech first and loved it. Then decided to not waste Minnesota's time.

And his own. That's the simplest explanation and probably the right one. There's something satisfying about making a major decision and concluding the matter. Now we should follow his lead and conclude the matter of Nolan Groves.

Lubbock is far from exotic. It's warmer, but it's dry and the wind is relentless. There's still plenty of cold in the winter too.

Oh for sure. I'm saying that may be his perception because it is far away and different.

I've lived in 7 different states now but growing up we didn't really ever leave MN, and I went to college in-state (Morris and the U of M). I still remember what it felt like moving to a new city for my first job (Denver) . It felt exciting and invigorating. Nearly all my classmates from the U of M were staying in the cities so it felt like I was doing something cool and novel.

Would have been fun to have him and see if his game could translate to the B10 and if Niko could develop him...oh well.

Have you ever been to Lubbock Texas? It is at least 200 miles from nowhere. That part of Texas is very bland, or more correctly stated, just plain ugly.

List #4 in the attractions in Lubbock TX is the prairie dog town. Whew we.

As someone who went to college away from home and who has moved around a bit, I totally understand and agree with you. I don't blame anyone for doing it.

I just think some hear Texas, yet don't understand how brutal the weather is across the western half of the state. Not a place I would want to live.

I’m not arguing that Lubbock is exotic. To an 18 year old it might. Especially when they just made the Elite Eight.

I have driven through there and that was enough to give me a sense of it haha.
