Go Gophers!!

FSN: Gophers regroup, turn attention to NIT foe High Point

They're also hoping to repeat what they did two years ago in this same tournament. After missing out on the NCAA tournament, Minnesota advanced to the NIT championship at Madison Square Garden in New York. The Gophers lost to Stanford in the title game but believed the five additional postseason games helped springboard them into the 2012-13 season, during which they earned an NCAA tournament berth.

"It really benefitted us, being able to play in the postseason," Hollins said of Minnesota's previous NIT run. "That gives you a lot of experience. You're playing a lot of teams. That year we did a lot of traveling, as well. We were playing on the road. We came together as a team and learned a lot of things about ourselves."

Pitino, in his first year as Minnesota's head coach, said Monday that he can use the NIT to continue to develop as a coach. Just 31 years old and in his second year as a Division I head coach, Pitino knows he has plenty to learn. So while additional postseason games are beneficial for the players, they're a bonus for Pitino, too.

Go Gophers!!

I can see Pitino really wanting to get to Madison Square Garden. He has coached there before as an assistant, but I think the experience would be different as a head coach. Growing up in the Northeast, MSG was probably one of the main arenas he dreamed of coaching in one day.

Hold on here. There is a college named High Point and they have a basketball team?

You fans are a bunch of pompous arrogant a$$holes.

Yeah, who doesn't dream of one day coaching in the NIT!

Does anybody know of a good website I could stream the game from with an iPad? Besides ESPN3.

Why is it that out of the four #1 seeds in the NIT, our opening game is the only one to be relegated to ESPN3, while on that same Tuesday night, a #4 seed vs. a #5 seed (Georgetown vs. West Virginia) as well as a #3 seed vs. a #6 (Arkansas vs. Indiana State) each warrant the benefit of receiving prime-time and nationwide exposure on ESPN? I call total BS on that one and also find it bloody idiotic, as I would think the NIT would want to highlight their #1 seeds above all others, if only in order to help validate them.

I'm going to watch it anyway, but I would sure as hell rather do so on the wide and large screen as opposed to on the PC.

Frustrating, and highly irritating...

Most people would rather watch two power conference teams and old Big East rivals than Minnesota vs some college that sounds like a high school. It's all about match ups. Same thing happens in the NCAA's because a 8/9 game will be close than a 1/16 game. The Wisconsin/American game is on TruTV at 11:30 AM for example.

Didn't think this was that hard to understand.

Despite your rudeness and patronizing tone, what remains difficult for me to understand is how an ostensible "#1" seed can only be seen via internet feed, and I don't feel why that query's so difficult for you to understand.

Or maybe a #2 Missouri vs. a #7 Davidson is a matchup which really gets the pulse a poundin'? Or a #1 Florida State (whom we have obviously already beaten) vs. a #8 FGCU, or a #3 Clemson for God's sake vs. a #6 Georgia State, hell yeah, baby! Woo-hoo!

These are the five games played tonight on or around our time-spot which have gained broadcast on either ESPN, ESPN2, or ESPNU, in other words, regular fricken televised networks, as opposed to being shunted off to the internet airwaves, ala us, and does that provide any clarity at all, as to what my issue was all about?

OK, a game at a time, even in the NIT. However a Pitino vs Larry Brown final is a a bit compelling. Hope it happens. Hope it happens and hope we beat the snot out of them, the team so many are crying about missing the Big Dance and not a mention of the Gophers being out.

The #1 of the NIT. I repeat, the NIT. All ESPN is going for is interesting matchups and close games. All they care about is ratings and you don't get high ratings when the game is projected to be a blow out. Really, is it that hard to figure out? Buy a $50 Roku and you'll never have to worry about his ever again.

Edit: And to a casual basketball fan all of those other matchups are more interesting. Sorry to break it to you.'

Missouri v. Davidson is a major conference team v. a well established midmajor.

FSU v. FGCU is probably the second best matchup of the NIT's first round. FSU is an ACC team and FGCU was the most exciting team in the NCAA tournament last year and they only lost one player from last year's team.

Even Clemson v. Georgia State is a regional game between schools that are less than two hours away from each other.

There really is no storyline or draw to the Minnesota v. High Point game.

If a game is played and no one is there to watch it. Did it really happen?

The answer is yes. Penn state has been playing for years.

High Point

A team with high aspirations, who lost their second leading scorer Allan Chaney to a heart scare 5 games into the season.

Like a lot of mid-majors, High Pt is a horrible rebounding team. They shoot it well, but they do not defend well.

They have a talented so forward in John Brown 6'8 205, chipping in with 19.5pts, and 8 reb per game. They also have a tremendous 3 pt shooter in Jr Devante Wallace 6'5" 185.

Tough matchup for King in Brown. I am guessing Austin guards Wallace and he cannot help off of him. If we play with any fire we should have 15 off rebounds against this team. They have iffy pg play and hopefully we can cause some havoc pressing to get the crowd into the game.

Not sure, but I know for a fact that thousands of people can show up to watch a game and witness their team win, and are told years later that the game never happened.

Dayum, can't watch this game, I can't get ESPN3 by me...
What a bummer.
