Niko’s roster construction

You may want to find a lower level D2 or D3 school to cheer for then. Those days are over, you are likely to have a minimum of 50% roster turnover most every year at D1.
By stating the obvious, does this mean you demand I change my opinion on which version of college athletics I prefer? That I'm now required to question which school I should cheer for after nearly 50 years of devotion, financial support and loyalty?

I clearly stated TWICE that I was still excited to see what kind of roster that Niko can put together but thanks for the advice and your input.

Agree, Slim!!!

I'm looking forward to seeing a team that is prepared to start the season in shape and with a clear understanding of their role in the offense and defense! I feel like the past few seasons the team took a really long time to figure that out, in some cases I felt like there were players that never fully understood their role on the team.

I hope JoJo McIver, a 6-2, 165-pound Point Guard from Killeen, TX, who committed to Colorado State, follows Niko here. Would strengthen the point guard with Asuma. Now I’m hoping Niko is in contact with Ben’s three recruits and wants them to stay. If they show any interest, he should pay an at home visit, especially the big guy Jefferson.
With respect to our recruits....I am not sure what is best for them or us. Presuming that they are only going to play 2 years at whatever school they choose...as 50% of rosters will be changed out every year....they only have to decide where to spend the next year or two. Where can I shine? Where can I be a star? Where can I get the most exposure? Where can I play next year to make the most money the year after next? If they feel the answer to that question is Minnesota, then they will remain committed. If not, they won't. Sadly!

Days are getting short even at that level. Significant number of transfers impacting programs even in D3.

It is also a method that is only used by the smaller schools.

All of the Big programs in the Sweet 16 have lost many of their "young and developing" players to the portal and all of them can afford to fill their gaps with transfers who developed at other schools.
Santa Clara was one of the very few programs that had no portal guys last year. And they didn't really improve much for the continuity/experience/etc. They could have stood to lose a couple of guys that might have given the opportunity to improve and possibly make the NCAA tournament.

I don't think there will be anywhere that the portal is not a significant part of talent improvement.

You will have turnover, but a successful program doesn't have 7-8 a year. That's 50% of roster limit. We've seen that, and we haven't been successful. Other than when a coaching change, the best programs are not seeing half their team turn over every year.

Telling a player that they'll likely be coming off the bench is a different message than telling a player to pursue other options though. The latter suggests that they don't really have a place on the team.....rather than their place on the team is a smaller role than they may want.

This is all conjecture however. Random posters on GH aren't exactly solid sources.

You sure? Most of the ones who haven't transferred are superstar 5* freshman.

Good share- this was a wild tweet...

MSU, Pur, Duke showing what high level coaching and consistently keeping quality players can do. We're talking about the Gophs in the tourney right now with consistent roster management.

Purdue hasn't had a 5* since Swanigan, but they're swimming in high 4* guys. They develop/keep them and next thing you know, a bunch of mature juniors and seniors are stomping teams.

Izzo n Sheyer sure do get loose for them 5* guys for sure tho :ROFLMAO:

Huh. Interesting how can hear the same thing but hear it differently.
I heard it as a Medved defense of the Barn.
Correct, it was.

As another poster stated, he was defending the Barn by comparing it to Phog and Cameron as older buildings that lack modern amenities, but are electric on game day with a big crowd.

Niko was on with Chad Hartman at noon and he said that things really won't start picking up for commitments and portal movement for another week. Although it's rapid and quick, you still have to make sure players are the right fit.

He also said they were working towards hiring a GM at Colorado State and he hopes to do the same here. Until then there will be duties that assistants pick up.

This. Assuming we have players that are developing and like the coach and are optimistic about the future- it should be very hard to lose the core of our roster each year. Now that we will have competitive NIL/Rev sharing the things stated above should be enough that competitively paying our players will allow us to keep most of them and build stability.

The Third times the charm!!

Serious question: Some players wear tights, sometimes even on just one leg under their shorts.
I'd prefer to wear long pants...like warmups. Can I do that by rule?
I mean we are gonna need shooters and I could help. Dang, I hadn't even considered this...I was volunteering for free....but no, no.... I want some of that NIL/revenue money too!
It's either long pants or a two week trip to Arizona and some sun.

We’ll allow, but only if you also rock old school Chuck Taylors.

I prefer the traditional method of program building through HS recruiting and watching each class develop but this should be exciting to watch Niko put together our roster primarily through the Portal.
Speaking of, I think that’s how Nico Medvid (couldn’t resist) was able to get the ball rolling at CSU
He snagged Roddy and Stevens in his second recruiting class.
