Next Year's Starting Lineup

With what we know right now
PG-Dorsey
SG-Mason
SF-Morris
PF-King
C-Konate
With 3 scholarships available this Spring things could definitely change if we add a grad transfer or juco big or SF. I'm not sure if they will use all 3 open scholarships this Spring but think it would be more likely if one of them can be used on a grad transfer.

I think the bigger issue with rebounding and physical play is we go 5-9, 6-1, 6-5 170 on the perimeter. That is mid major sized. It will not be any better next year as we are going to have 6' guards and 170 lb sf. We have to get a juco or transfer who has some muscle to play the 3 and 4.

UConn seemed to do just fine with a small backcourt last season.

Plus Andre Hollins and Carlos Morris are 2nd and 3rd on the team in rebounding. The fact that our 6-1 SG averages more rebounds per 40 minutes than King and Buggs combined is the issue. We're getting no inside production from our 4-spot right now.

If the rosters are what we know they are today, I would say with almost 100% certainty that Mason, Morris and King would start. The rest is a crap shoot.

I don't know, would 2-3 wins in conference play exceed expectations?

Idk five of our road games ate Rutgers Penn state northwestern Illinois and Nebraska. No reason they couldn't win three of those. Go 6-3 at home go 10-3 or 11-2 in non con and will be on the bubble. Which would be solid for this group

not sure why we hate on Buggs. he is actually playing better than guys like King and Williams

his long arms and his athletic ability makes him a shoe in for a starting spot next year. he can shoot and play defense and above all MAKES GOOD DECISIONS more than the more experienced players on the team (exception is Hollins)

not sure you guys are watching the same game as i am

For the most part, I agree. Buggs makes mistakes every here and there, but his athleticism, passing, and rebounding in his short stints give great energy to the team. I like Joey for what he is, a 3-point threat and hustler coming off the bench, but he is most certainly not a starting PF on a good high-major team.

Anyways, I'm going to be optimistic and forecast the 2016 roster (way prematurely).

PG- Kevin Dorsey
SG- Nate Mason
SF- Amir Coffey
PF- Hurt/Buggs
C- Reggie Lynch

Nice. :)

While better than King, Buggs isn't a good rebounder overall.

Does anyone have a list of 5's that are even eligible as grad transfers, just to give something to imagine?

the big ten

Oh there is no doubt we have really weak rebounding from the 4. But we also have no physical players playing the 4, 3,or 2. In the big ten that matters. UConn made a great run and are very athletic, but they would have lost a few big ten games with that lineup. I see Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan St. with multiple physical players. I just hope Pitino realises he needs some gritty and physical players at the forward spots in addition to all the skinny athletes he is bringing in. Name me a big ten team with a smaller in weight lineup?

I have never heard anyone say those words before.

Kinda curious how you guys see our starting lineup next year. We have 4 incoming Freshman. All 4 look like they will contribute early. Kevin Dorsey, Jarvis Johnson, Dupree McBrayar, Jonathan Nwankwo.

Where have I heard this before?

I have never heard anyone say those words before.

Buggs doesn't turn the ball over (look at the stats) and typically gets rid of it quickly. That's smart. He is not a basketball savvy kid though- no doubt about it- from standpoint of positioning, it just doesn't come naturally to him.

I'm not willing to write in Dorsey over Jarvis just yet. Dorsey is longer and probably a better scorer at this point, but I think (obviously this is just an educated guess until they get to campus) that Jarvis has a lot of pure PG in him. By that I mean he's a leader, poised, willing to do whatever is needed to win be it scoring or setting up others. I just think he brings a lot of intangibles to the table and it will be hard to keep him off the court. It probably doesn't matter that much as Dorsey and Jarvis will likely split the time at PG in some way and may both play together anyway

I think Buggs makes some of the soundest decisions with the ball on the team. He doesn't try to do too much, he's rarely out of control, and he makes some very intuitive passes. I think the most important thing he needs to work on is confidence in his ball handling. I'm not sure I've ever seen him take more than three dribbles at a time.

Judging by what pitino and others say Dorsey is a better defender than Johnson.....don't know off hand as I haven't seen either play a lot.
