Who does everyone feel will be the "breakout" players of the 2010-2011 season?

Great idea for a thread.

We will need some breakout guys at positions of need. So, my picks:

Kirksey DT
Jacobs, DE
Cooper and Reeves, LB
Carter, CB

B. Green, WR
Whaley, RB
And, hopefully, Gray, QB

Pretty safe guesses, I know. A lot of room for breakout players on defense with so many seniors this year.

I like 'em...especially Cooper.

That's mine, too. Sure hope we are right!

Adam Weber?

I think the two of you misunderstood the question. He wants to know who will be positive impact players next year, not who will be responsible for several losses all by himself

defense:

tinsley and carter.......hageman as the darkhorse

offense:

mcknight and whaley.........weber as the darkhorse

Cooper and Carter on defense.

McKnight on offense, and also Green if Gray is the starter.

If were guessing next years best players on offense and defense it will be

Defense: Cooper, Carter and Tinsley.
Offense: Brandon Green, Gray and Whaley

If were projecting someone who hasn't played yet that will step up next year i'll say

Defense: Hageman and someone new in the secondary (I think our secondary will be pretty competitive)
Offense: Lamonte if he plays RB, Kirkwood or James Green.

Well, we have been through this same thing before with Billy Cockerham, AAK and Cupito. All three of those guys had some horrific games for us when they were here but all three turned out a pretty good senior year for us. I think Weber could be a huge surprise next year and just might be the key to a good year for us. Furthermore, he very well could surprise you in the Bowl game. I just keep going back to that MSU game where he looked very very good and I know that he CAN be a good QB. I sure wouldn't give up on him right now, that's for sure.

Offensive Line

Ed Olson, and possibly Brooks Michael. All of the offensive players mentioned thus far would look a lot better with an improved offensive line, which I think will happen.

Weber ended up 2nd team all big ten the last time he was in the second year of an offense. Not a fair bet for a darkhorse. He has history on his side already.

Kerry Lewis, Spencer Reeves, Gary Tinsley, KGM, Eric Lair, Victor Keise, Kevin Whaley, Brooks Michel.

I figure the more names I throw out there, the better the chance I hit on a few.

Look at all the reasons for 2010 optimism. I think several of these guys are going to become outstanding B10 players (a couple already are). Most surprising rising star? I'm saying Mike Rallis. He was starting to come on when he got hurt. Hope he can pick up there and move forward.

You are an ignorent putz-so he passes for 400 yds. in one game and do you think the offense's woes are strictly on him? Get a life! The kid has busted his butt for the U and is a tremendous representative...you could learn something from him...putz.

you just made the point for most people who are down on weber (the apparent ignorant putzes, even though most of them can spell ignorant). he threw for 400 yds. and 5 TD's in one game. ONE GAME. IMO, it was one of two games this year our QB made more plays than the other. he does bust his butt and is a great guy, but i just don't see him having a break out year.

i think carter, kirksey, tinsley and cooper have break out years on D

the entire O-line, at least one green, and gray (whatever position he ends up in) have break out years on offense.

Defensively:
Obvious: Cooper....I think most of us who saw him play last season are pretty pumped about his ability, and it wouldn't be surprised by a lot of success.
Darkhorse: DL Wilhite
**the defense is filled with young talented guys who appear ready to make huge jumps next season, pretty much you can list anyone except the two safeties and it makes sense.

Offensively:
Obvious: Kevin Whaley....I think we will name him the starter from the jump, and hopefully our OLine improves and he can show some more of that speed. His numbers are probably better than we realize, he was ripping off over 4 yards a carry on a team without QB play or effective line play. I expect Whaley to have a very solid season (800 yards ish), and he would be capable of more except Bennett and Eskridge will get touches.
Darkhorse: I'm torn between saying Kiese and Allen, but I will go with Allen. He seems like he is a confident athlete with good hands. Even though he fair caught on a lot of his opportunities, I think it says a lot that a true freshman can field punts with such confidence. I was honestly, less nervous with him catching the ball than I have been for a lot of Vikings PR over the years. He also looks slick and seems to run well. If our QB play can get figured out, I can't imagine why he wouldn't be succesful.

All the above plus a couple of true freshman or JUCO are big time. I am really excited for next year. Second year for both coordinators.

The ENTIRE mostly senior O-Line is going to have a breakout year... Weber will have all the time in the world to throw and that'll result in a breakout year for him too!!!

I will be the first to say Seantrel Henderson.....I like the Kenny Watkins pick also
