I'm a Flip hater. I decided to not repeat my objections to him and just leave him off the list.

I'd put Flip somewhere between Saul Smith, Brett Haskins and Wilbur "Shooter" Flatch.

Agreed, plus the Brewster firing was mid-season with interim Jeff Horton. They couldn't and wouldn't have hired a coach before the team's season ended. It was only about 10 days after the end of the season that Kill was announced.

He's going pretty quickly.

I always think of replacing coaches as a two step analysis.
(1) Was it right to fire the current coach?
(2) Did you hire a good replacement?

Some people seem to think that if #2 is NO that means that #1 is automatically NO. The truth is, a lot of coaches get fired who deserve to be let go but the University follows it with another dud. That doesn't mean the original coach deserved to keep his job. Teague acted quickly with firing Tubby and that's a positive sign. We are onto step#2. If this drags out too long, it's a mistake, but I doubt it will. We'll know by this weekend.

I agree with this theory. However, this mentality is starting to get shaky.
 




What has Shaka Smart done to receive all this attention? I am dead serious. There are so many coaches out there who are qualified and everybody is so high on this guy at times I get scared of the next big thing. Like anything it is a gamble and I guess it is only sports.

It's really assumptive...and I don't like it. As a Minnesotan, I should know better than to have hope for anything sports (save hockey - Go Gophs).

Oh and "The Dude" is most known for his wild tweets about conference expansion. So he's not a reliable source about who MN wants to hire.

I don't know what he'll do. He didn't earn the title of Commander by being a push over. He's a firm but fair Commander of a mythical place. A place that is only whispered about at absynthe parties between new age bohemian scenesters. He is a wise and powerful man, I hope he takes mercy on you.

I follow this guy. I am not sure how reliable he will be on this. But he does have some really good stuff regarding B1G Expansion rumors and speculation.

He became friends with richmondinsider and Spike Lee.
 

I've set myself up for failure.

If its not Shaka or Stevens, I will be disappointed. But at least I'll always have this thread.

Don't know if this is supposed to be a rhetorical question, but the answer is, 7 NCAA Tournament wins in 3 years, for starters. Besides the really nice recruiting class he has coming in next year, which demonstrates his ability to recruit. All at VCU, which says something. If Tubby had had a third of this accomplishment, he'd still be working here.

Anthony Grant has never been fired from a coaching gig. Flip's been fired from all of his. I can see the comparison.
 


To counter BOB - whose going to get a beatdown of a lifetime by my posse of old dogs, if our arthritis doesn't hamper us, here is my list,

A. Flip Saunders
B. Flip Saunders
C. Shaka Smart
D. Flip Saunders
E. Buzz Williams
F. Flip Saunders
G. Whoever NT picks if he's not on the list already?


Flip would be perfect for this job, absolutely perfect. And he might not cost us 3.5 mil a year, either.
 


I will freely admit I have concerns about Flip's drive to play the college coaching game. He'd have to have a knockout staff for me to feel really good about it.

I assume Flip at A doesn't have Ryan Saunders on the staff and Flip at F does?
