News Conference at 2

Sid just got there, he thought it was 2 mountain time.

He's definitely a small town guy. He seems like a good coach, but he seems like he should be coaching Iowa with that hillbilly mindset.

Yeah, we're so suave and sophisticated in Minnesota. LOL.

He just referred to himself in the 3rd person during BTN interview. lol "This is a great job for Coach Kill and family:

Big into the kicking game, he thinks you can get a couple of wins per year through the kicking game.

I stumped for him before the hire was made and I can't help but continue to be impressed with this guy. This hire put substance over style finally, and I think we'll be rewarded for it. Good tough defenses, strong running game, midwestern sensibilities, and perhaps more important than all else, WANTS this job.

We made a good hire here, no doubt about it. He fits in here, and our coach is going to finally reflect the identity of this state and with some work he'll make the football program reflect that identity too.

I didn't get to watch, sounded positive all around. Did Maturi answer questions?

I liked that he refered to Minnesota as "The U". Got so sick of Miami trying to claim that for themselves.

Came away very impressed with Kill. This is a guy who knows who he is, what he's about and what he's going to expect from the players and his staff. He had some great one-liners, seems to be a humble, down-to-earth yet high energy guy who will demand a lot from his players but also will represent the University of Minnesota with class and integrity.

He's winning me over...no going to the rose bowl, no winning 10 games....down to earth is an understatement, he looks and sounds like my retired neighbor!

This is exactly what I wanted to hear, not a bunch of overhype.

Coach Kill is off to a great start. How could one not like what he said?

This guy is a fighter, a battler and I can understand how he turned programs around. And the right way. He stated many times this is not Jerry Kill's program. Its ours and we all need to work together to get it headed in the right direction.

"Am I nervous about this new position? No, this is what we set goals for, to be confident and achieve them".

Good point, missed on that one. I guess what I like the most is that he has a system and he sticks to it. It'll be interesting to see how he builds that identity with this team.

I will give him a shot as long as he did not use the term "Gopher Nation" If I never hear that term again it will be to soon.

He did not use it. Just a simple 'we" and "our"

You're okay then. No mention of it in the presser...:p

I'm all in. No corpuscles jumping or Gopher Nation in the Rose Bowl. A quiet confidence wins me over. Results are all that counts with this guy.

Kill's performance at the presser- A

Maturi, be a man and take some Q's.

Disagree with the Maturi part. Making him answer a bunch of questions would have changed the tone of the press conference. No matter how much you dislike Maturi, this was about the hiring of Kill. No need to bring any negativity into it. There is a time and place to find out more about the coaching search, this wasn't it.

Just kills me that his first game will be in LA against USC....welcome to big time football coach!

Nothing to lose except the game - what could be better? I mean if they lose - that was expected. If they play well or even win - huge.

Imagine if it was against NIU? He couldn't win.

Agreed. If they can beat USC, I think it sets a tone in a BIG way for the rest of the season.
