New QB Commit

Has 3 years of eligibility according to Ryan Burns.

He will definitely give them a running threat from the QB spot (if he can beat out Green, Croft and Williams).

Plenty of options for us to say would be better as the season goes on next year.

For whatever reason, it seems the coaches preferred him to Ta'amu. Fine by me. We have 3-4 Fr/So QBs on the roster now - assuming Williams stays there and no one transfers. I suspect we will see a few of them next year and hope to H, E, double hockey sticks that one of them emerges.

His ability to pass is really hard to judge through the highlights, but he definitely seems like a dynamic runner.

He is a quality kind of JuCo player.

He doesn't seem to have academic issues (having three years of eligibility shows that he would have qualified after HS, right?)
He was injured during the first game of his senior season, which could explain why he went the JuCo route.

I thought the guy we were going to add was going to be Ta'amu, it seems like the staff prefers McLaurin. Welcome aboard.

And maybe Ta'amu preferred Mississippi.

It could be survival of the fittest at the QB position. throw all the candidates into a Darwinian pit, and whoever crawls out gets to be the starter. (warning - that is a metaphor.......)

Look, I can't read the coaches' minds, so I have no way of knowing what they think about the various QB options - but it just seems logical to me that - IF they were sold on one of the returning candidates, they would NOT be bringing in a Juco. This staff has shown that they go for Juco's when they feel an immediate need for both starters and quality depth. brought in 3 Juco O-linemen, and all three wound up starting.

So, unless I'm dead wrong (a possibility), the staff has concerns about Green or Croft being the #1 starter next season. Unless this new guy is a total bust, I would not be shocked if he starts the 1st game next season. (if you bring in a Juco QB, and he doesn't start, it's a waste of a scholarship in my opinion. you'd be better served to bring in a HS QB and develop him for 4 (or 5) years.

Wow. Looks like he has a good arm and great wheels!

Agree that it is next to impossible to judge his passing ability. Appears to have a good arm and I noticed he had a quick release on a couple of his throws. He appears to be a very good athlete.

My question revolves more around the quality of the defenses in the Mississippi Junior College ranks. On some of the highlights, it actually looks like the defensive players were running away from the offensive players.

Seems to have a quality arm and decent runner for his size. Comparing him to taamu, Jordan has the weaker arm but would oftentimes go through his progressions to the second, third, even fourth option. Neil seemed to have one read and throw on these highlights. His (Neil) stats weren't impressive but teammates, offensive line matter as does the competition. I can't get inside the coaches heads here but that's why they make the big bucks.

It looks like he was there for two years, injured in the first game in 2015. Medical redshirt?

Great to have a lot of options at the QB position. Hopefully he is just an under the radar guy who can break out here. Other schools that recruited him were Northwestern State, Troy, and Southeastern Louisiana.

Looking at his highlights, it was nice to see recievers on a quick slant hit in stride, it looks like he makes quick decsions. The spring game will be interesting I wouldn't be surprised to see a QB transfer after spring semester.

Claeys has said they will have a QB and RB in every class. They may still find a freshmen QB. They have two RB's in the class.

Blasphemy, we cooled on him.

We did in this case. Ta'amu flat out said as much. Whether or not they were right to do so remains to be seen.
