New Commit - Cameron Wilson

we are not the same type of program as Oklahoma. So why are we mad that we got a preferred walk on from them? How many first round picks did they have last year? Their program doesn't compare to ours so being pissed is living in a delusional world.

Can we please stop with the "decker was a 2 star" comparisons? Not every 2 star player will turn out like that. I am a brew backer but he was not hired to bring in two star rejects.

The point, I think, is not that every 2 star will turn out like Decker, but that we should not automatically turn our collective noses up at every 2 star recruit because quite a few make a good deal of noise in college football. How does someone become a reject because of a 2 star rating? What was Eslinger? What was Barber III? I'm not certain, am really asking, but a lot of people on here have referred to both of them as being players not highly recruited, which makes me suspect we've had more than Decker come in not highly touted and leave in a different manner. Anyway, it's not about "every" it's about possibilities and judging character.

Part of a recruiter's job is to land highly regarded recruits. Another part is to find talent that's been overlooked by other schools. Is this player an overlooked talent? Maybe, maybe not. But he can't be too bad, I doubt Oklahoma is in the habit of giving preferred walk ons to just anyone who shows up. He probably could have gotten scholarship offers at a lower level of competition.

The stars mean something, but not everything. If a team has a lot of highly rated recruits, that is probably a good recruiting class. But it's only probabilities, it don't hold up so well for particular individuals.

forget about the stars for a minute and lets examine his offer list................? he didn't have one single offer. it says on his rivals profile that he is a soft verbal. also on the McKnight comparisons....Joe just started playing football as a senior, i believe, as he was a basketball player. curious to find out why this kid wasn't recruited harder since he is from texas and all

Who is Joe McKnight?

Has not played football a long time. Oklahoma has him as a preferred walk-on. No one wants to take a risk on how his abilities pan out. We have some openings. He won't see game time for a couple of years. Gives him a chance to get stronger, faster, smarter as a player. Hey, it might be 3 years before he gets on the field. Plenty of time for him to develop. You can't do all of your recruiting this way but seems like a solid addition to me.

Since the other option was to lose a schollie, I'm ok with taking a guy who has athletic ability, size, excellent grades, hard worker, comes from a solid family (sounds like it anyhow), really wants to be here AND comes from the #1 ranked team in the state of Texas. Something tells me he'll do some recruiting for us the next couple seasons.

Well...he's tall, sort of.

I see a guy catching a lot of balls when the defender's fallen down on the play. If that's what he's showcasing, what are we not seeing?

Why do people think a scholarship is "lost" if not used?

I see these posts about losing or "loosing" a scholarship if it is not used. Isn't 85 the limit(or with sanctions 82)? I know there is a limit per year of 25 + 3 but I don't think that scholarships are lost. Also don't the coaches often reward walk-ons with one year scholarships? A preferred walk-on at Oklahoma is probably worth a try.
