I think part of it is every year we hear this is the year for Nebraska and of course, every year it is not and it's funny for usGH has a weird obsession with Nebraska IMO. Wouldn't shock me if they have a pretty good year.
well, the six times we beat NebraskaI think part of it is every year we hear this is the year for Nebraska and of course, every year it is not and it's funny for us
Gophers have built up a mini rivalry vs Nebraska and they're fun to beat because Nebraska fans think MN is so far beneath them........
I was there when MN beat Nebraska for first time with Jerry Kill and Phillip Nelson leading the way. Nebraska was ranked 23, I think and Nebraska fans there were nice, but haughty and acting like we'd be telling stories to our grand kids of the one time we beat Nebraska
or the all-time winning record against them.well, the six times we beat Nebraska

His clock started or sped up with every 4 year old tantrum he threw while there. Losing to us was the death knell for his tenure at Nebbie.Safe to say if you experienced either of the Nebraska beat-downs in the 80s that yes, there is a special place in Football Hell reserved for Nebbie as far as Gophers are concerned.
The Billds were there in the Dome for the 1989 game. That was our first and last Gopher game for about 10 years. Obviously we got over it.
We were in Lincoln for the W in in 2014. Just looked it up and had forgotten they were ranked 23 at the time. Arguably Coach Pelini's firing clock started that wonderful afternoon if not before.
Their schedule doesn't have a gauntlet of top teams, but assuming the 2 predicted losses are Michigan and @Penn State, this implies they win every other game, including beating us, which they haven't done recently. 4-0 against us, the two LA schools, and Iowa doesn't seem likely to me.GH has a weird obsession with Nebraska IMO. Wouldn't shock me if they have a pretty good year.
I don't think it's weird at all. It feels like this is a rivalry that's grown pretty strong pretty quickly. I wouldn't doubt it if a large majority of Gopher fans consider Nebraska our biggest rival behind Wisconsin and Iowa.GH has a weird obsession with Nebraska IMO. Wouldn't shock me if they have a pretty good year.

99-01 under Solich they were good. Probably mostly TO’s recruiting though…His clock started or sped up with every 4 year old tantrum he threw while there. Losing to us was the death knell for his tenure at Nebbie.
I'd like to go back to their AD at the time Shawn Eichorst and ask him if the he knew now what the next 11 years would have looked like if he'd make the same decision to fire Pelini, following 7 straight 9 win seasons. I'd argue it was the right call (Pelini had become unhinged at that point), but the hires - not so much.
Nebraska is a top five "most arrogant" program west of MeatChicken, with nothing to hang their hats on since Tom Osborne left (yes the absolute beatdowns of the Gophers in the 80's still stings).
Hope you were in the stands for the 2017 game. We put up 54 on Neb. The most we put up on anyone that year. I think the Gopher QB was Denny Croft and he ran a couple long option keepers for TDs that were back breakers for Neb. I had some Neb fans right in front of me and it was a schadenfreude day for the ages for me and I hope for you and Mrs. Bild.Safe to say if you experienced either of the Nebraska beat-downs in the 80s that yes, there is a special place in Football Hell reserved for Nebbie as far as Gophers are concerned.

Yes we were! Plus, we have Husker family (on Mrs. Billd's side of course) that brought a crew of 4 up to the game. Needless to say they were shellshocked after that one. Even Little Red was was diminished that fine day.Hope you were in the stands for the 2017 game. We put up 54 on Neb. The most we put up on anyone that year. Yeah.....their schedule definitely looks manageable on paper but predicting 10-2 for a team that hasn't come close to a record like that in a long time is very optimistic.Their schedule doesn't have a gauntlet of top teams, but assuming the 2 predicted losses are Michigan and @Penn State, this implies they win every other game, including beating us, which they haven't done recently. 4-0 against us, the two LA schools, and Iowa doesn't seem likely to me.
Demry Croft as the national offensive player of the week might have been the absolute nadir of Nebraska football, among many contendersHope you were in the stands for the 2017 game. Year 3 was also the year he got fired mid-season from the Panthers.Year 3 is when both Matt Rhule's Temple & Baylor teams made vast improvements. Temple went 10-4 and Baylor went 11-3.
With Nebraska's schedule 10-2 is possible, but it is highly optimistic.
Yeah, we pummeled them something like 51-14 or whatever, I think it was 2013 or 2014. I thought that might be the turning point, but then we started losing to them again. There were a few huge blowouts on our end in the 2010's that still make zero sense to me. Didn't we put up 50+ on Iowa during the Kill/Claeys years too?
It's so confusing considering the talent discrepancy between then and now.
Kill won a couple in a row against Nebraska, but I don't think Claeys beat them. Fleck's first year (2017) we beat them 54-21 and Nebraska turned the tables in 2018 beating us 53-28. They racked up 383 yards on the ground and I remember the game pretty much spelled the end for Robb Smith, I don't know if it was the defensive scheme or players just not executing, but Ozigbo ran a couple of off-tackle plays that went for scores and both runs were 40 or more yards. I can remember muttering to myself, "Does anyone know the concept of 'contain'?" Durr was basically on an island on those plays and if he stepped inside, Ozigbo went outside and if Durr tried to contain, Ozigbo would cut inside (where surprisingly, there were no Gophers). I think Smith was demoted the next or week after.Yeah, we pummeled them something like 51-14 or whatever, I think it was 2013 or 2014.
