Nebraska Fans Count

Maybe I didn't pay close enough attention either but I didn't think they had anywhere near 25k. I would have put it closer to 15k but in any case, I don't think their fans had an effect on the game. It never really got too loud.

As for the student section, well security decided that they couldn't stand in parts of the upper deck and were kicking people out. Completely unacceptable if you ask me, not sure how we can expect them to show up when they can't do what students should be doing at a game. I guess we need more help to right this ship than I thought, now we even have to educate security.

Really?! What's the story behind that? Completely ridiculous. Someone tell coach Kill this, I bet he'll be on some asses about that ASAP.

Just a couple thoughts that are related to this issue

1. Every game cannot be a rivalry game- If there are people who buy season tickets who can't afford every game, they should be able to sell a game or two to the highest bidder. I think it's completely different selling a ticket to a Nebraska fan who we have no current rivalry with than to a Hawkeye or Badger fan. If it's a choice between a good Gopher fan being in that seat for 7 of the 8 home games or the seat going empty most of the year (yet likely still bought for the Nebraska game by a Huskers fan), I think the choice is obvious.

2. Minnesota fans are not "bandwagon" fans, there is no bandwagon to get on. The idea that anyone who has purchased a season ticket to Gopher football in my lifetime is a bandwagon fan is ridiculous.

Maybe 40%, but no way 50% if you count the student section. While smaller, keep in mind students are basically 100% MN fans. The noise at the beginning was definitely louder for the gophs good plays than fur big Husker plays.

Also the poster about no bandwagon is dead on. This team hasn't even been close to winning their conference in forty years. There is no bandwagon and hasnt been in most of our lifetimes. Anyone that actually shells out money for this program year after year DEFINES hard core fan. Everyone has their limit, if this year is it and these folks sell their tickets to Husker fans, big deal. We all know how to make that stop happening. The U is damn lucky to have a core that keeps buying season tickets at all after the decades of failure.

How can you possible argue that Minnesota fans are not "bandwagon" fans...have you seen Target Center in recent years for T-Wolves games? That is the exact definition of "bandwagon" fans...fans that will only support their local teams when they are winning. Also, as a solution to your point #1, then simply purchase single game tickets. I repeat, their is no acceptable excuse for true Gopher fans to sell their tickets to the opposition. And for god sake if your going to sell your tickets to opposing fans people, then don't come on a Gopher board such as this and complain about how long it will take Kill to turn this program around. He's trying to change the entire culture of the program...including the fan base!

Part of what I like about being a fan of minnesota sports teams is that our fans are bright enough, and have full enough lives, to not waste large amounts of time and money on horrible teams. I can follow the T-wolves in the box scores and on television until they give me something to watch.
I would never sell to a badger or hawkeye, but I guess if you honestly can't afford tickets, you should go ahead and sell them (though you should probably stop buying the expensive lower-deck-between-the-20s seats if you can't afford them...plenty of room up top with us plebes)

I'd say that is about right. maybe 2/5. Our section didn't have much red.

When the Gopher fans had something to cheer about they were definitely louder. Husker fans were pretty docile and didn't notice any obnoxious Iowegian types.

Same with my section-which is why I'll probably stay there for the long haul. Last year the bad Gopher fans behind me sold their tickets to a bunch of Iowa drunks. They were horrible until the chick had to puke and they all left. That's the closest I've had to be to the enemy fans in TCF so far.

I don't think it's fair to count the Timberwolves against the Minnesota fan base. There's probably only one NBA fan base in the country (the Knicks) that would sellout consistently for a bad team. Regular season NBA games are boring and expensive. I guarantee that if the Lakers were bad for 4 years in a row, their games would be half-empty too.

Remember when the Kings had the most rabid fans in the NBA, back in the Webber era? ARCO was really loud and raucous. Last year they averaged 13,890, well behind the Timberwolves. Even Indiana, where basketball is life, had horrible attendance last year.

The Twins have plenty of bandwagon fans. We'll see how many next year. How can anyone with intelligence enough to tie their shoes argue with you about Gopher "bandwagon" fans? The wagon has only stopped by two-three times in 40 years.

Thank you to all of the Gopher "fans" who sold their tickets to Husker fans. Good job being...ya know, a good fan.

I would typically agree with this - but the issue is, you couldn't "sell" any tickets to Gopher fans. Everyone that wanted to go to the game (probably about 30K) already had tickets. I got 2 tickets midweek last week, and to get Gopher fans into the seats, I had to give them away. Since they were given to me, I was able to do that. A lot of times ticket holders need to re-coup that money, so I can't really judge them for that when there are no buyers.

Keep in mind, I posted these 2 free tickets on my Facebook, and did not have 1 taker in over 1000 friends. I had to search to give these away.

If a season ticket holder had always planned on selling the tickets no matter what, then I have no problem with it. There are some who want to support the team as much as possible but can't afford a full year of season tickets so they plan on selling tickets to one or two of the games.

But what if the Gophers were 4-2 going into the game Saturday? I bet some of these same people who are selling their tickets to opponents' fans now would have kept them and gone to the game. These so-called fans are using the money thing to cover up the fact that they just don't want to go because we are bad.

I know I sold 4 tickets to fans from Lincoln. Was happy enough to get someone who was going to enjoy the game to pay for the seats. Now to get some money on the Sconnie and Iowa tickets...

you are lame..........stupid..............and lame.....................stupid...........and lame........................and a sell-out. smartass.

Exactly. I know a few who did just that.

We could go around and around with this topic, but selling your tickets to the enemy is the definition of not being a good fan to your team. People can do whatever they feel is best, but the "real" fans that have to sit next to the drunken Iowa/Badger fans don't have to like it.

That's because you don't have me as a friend. A facebook friend, that is.

I am sure your neighbors that are at the game do not appreciate your selling them to opposing fans. I was happy to see 2 empty seats behind me instead of red. And remember you can always donate to Tixs for Tots and get something for your tickets.

+1

As someone who works with kids that benefit from Tix for Tots, I must say kudos to you for the suggestion. I don't know how big the program is around MPLS but it is always great to hear it mentioned.
