NDSU #25 vs Minnesota #13

I was there and Saul and company didn't act like it didn't matter

Well I'd hope so, he is the head coach. The game was meaningless, the preparation and how NDSU runs it offense and defense are much different for games that actually count for something. I've been to countless exhibition games I know the differences between them and real games.

Like mayville st?

How come ndsu counts the wins vs mayville st and Jamestown but not vs msum???

You can play two non-DI teams per year during the regular season, Mayville and VCSU were the two and MSUM and Concordia were played as exhibition games.

I do think NDSU and other teams typically schedule the weaker non-DI teams for the regular season.

If the Gophers let NDSU stick around I'll be disappointed. I haven't seen NDSU and I won't tonight (unless I DVR the game, ignore texts, twitter and espn.com) because I will be at the Apple Valley game. However, the #13 team in the country @ home should win almost every game. I doubt NDSU has the depth, size or athleticism of the Gophers. When their best players are good in their conference it doesn't mean they can compete with good defenders from the big ten. For no reason whatsoever I will say Gophers 87-NDSU 69. Gophers want to win the "rivalry game"

OP take the #25 off from the title, it is massively misleading....

Exactly. I thought it was a little ridiculous that someone puts that in the thread title. Then, the OP said it was in the mid-major poll? You gotta be kidding? Who cares. Didn't even know that existed.

IMO, it is comparable to asking me who is #23 in the FCS poll in football. Like any of us here on GH care.

I like Mike Felt. I also like that his name is a sentence.

In past years the Gophers have had match-up problems with NDSU's players' combination of size and skill - i.e. tall guys who can shoot. The big difference between this year's Gopher team and those past teams are the Gophs' defensive prowess and confidence.

14 is probably a right point spread for vegas. NDSU should be able to keep it under 10, but when betting on basketball it could be a 8 point game and fouls come and boom its 18 then.

Take off the yellow and green shaded glasses and get real. Under 10? Never gonna happen.

Gophers by 20, u are giving ndsu a lot of credit that I don't think they deserve at this point. They don't play any zone which is a huge advantage for the gophers and they lack size and athleticism in the post. EE will look athletic to other compared to what ndsu has to offer. Bjorkland is a stud but he will get eaten up by mbakwe, Rodney, mo, and EE. I don't see Braun having more than 10-12 points tonight and if their pg gets into foul trouble ndsu lacks ball handlers. If we lose tonight, I will jump off the tubby bandwagon and he can be fired!

I can't really see us losing this one if NDSU doesn't play any zone. I don't know much about NDSU, but I can't imagine that they have enough athleticism to match up with us well in man defense.

NDSU is 8-2 and ranked #25 in the Mid Major Poll. (I know, its the cutest fat girl list)

NDSU lost to #1 Indiana and has been on a roll lately, but obviously everyone expects the gophers to win this game, and Im not trying to say that NDSU will win.
NDSU has Mr Basketball Minnesota Marshall Bjorklund and Redwood falls Mike Felt who is a 3 point specialist.

hope to enjoy this game and see if NDSU can keep it close, they have a good point guard Lawrence alexander and forward Taylor Braun.

last time NDSU beat Minnesota was 1936 (I still don't know how ben woodside and crew weren't able to beat those dan monson teams)

Ryan James (top Mn prep/college basketball guy imo) had this opening paragraph (made me laugh) in his NDSU preview. It's premium content from www.gopherillustrated.com but I don't think he'll mind me posting it here......

"Twice in a five year span NDSU defeated the Minnesota Gophers in football. What does that have to do with tonight's basketball game between 13th ranked Minnesota and 8-2 NDSU? Nothing but people in Fargo like to bring it up anyway. Fact is the Gophers have been stomping out the Bison forever winning 26 of 27 in the series including the last 15."

Let's not rip on the title. I've heard ESPN is considering switching from the AP poll to the mid-major poll to display on the ticker at the bottom of the screen.

good points warrior. Mo Walker Sampson Mbawke in the past would just get the ball down low and walk all over ndsu. Marshall Bjorkland gives ndsu a legit shot not to get crushed down low. Hollins will get matched up with kory brown a defensive guy, but he's only a freshman.

ndsu is 4-2 vs Natalie wolters, so I expect ndsu to beat sdsu for the summit.

Its a shame this game never is on the weekend so the ndsu fans could travel better........but im guessing tubby didn't want that.

Oh was Marshall AP Minnesota player of the year then. sorry.

You are by far the most obnoxious poster on this board. I've never ignored anyone, but you're getting closer and closer every day.

What, you mean the Bison trolls are not hilarious?

NDSU is a very good team. If they're hitting 3's they could surprise tonight. Really like Bjorklund. Felt is a legit threat from deep... comes off the bench and finds ways to get open shots. Wright adds a touch of athleticism.. Braun is a go to guy... I like Alexander but he's gotta be better than what he's done so far this year... no seniors getting significant minutes... Bison probably should roam to the title next season, but have a great shot to win the Summit this year.

Gophers *should win*, but this is a good measuring stick game.. NDSU is tough. "Scariest" nonconf home game on Minnesota's schedule this year, IMHO.

Good lawd, that reads like someone who has never seen them play, read the most recent box scores and has to create 5" of column.

Just stop posting here. It's clear the only reason you post here is to drive traffic to your site.

Very true.

Sweet, beating another ranked team will look great on the Gophers resume.
