Per Chris:
An NBA tradition — the league’s annual survey of general managers, who weigh in this time of year on 49 different questions regarding the best coaches, teams and players in the league. It’s always helpful to know what the decision makers of the league think about the state of the game and the state of various players and teams.
Here are where the Wolves placed — or didn’t — and what it might signify about how the league views them (general managers were not allowed to vote for their own teams or personnel).
The GMs also predicted how teams would finish in their respective conferences. The Wolves are fourth in the West. One GM predicted they would finish second, 23% predicted third and 30% fourth. The survey had the Thunder, Nuggets and Rockets ahead of them, in that order. The Wolves were tied with the Magic at 7% for who would have the best defense in the NBA (the Thunder took that with 83%).
Edwards also placed second in “most athletic player” with 23%, behind Houston’s Amen Thompson at 58%. Edwards won that category with 45% a season ago.
One of the big takeaways from the survey is for the second consecutive year, Wolves assistant Micah Nori was named best assistant coach in the league with 25% of the vote. Last season he split that honor with the Celtics’ Sam Cassell, but this year, Nori takes first by himself. He has been a candidate for multiple coaching vacancies the last few seasons, and this is an indication that his reputation among league executives remains high. At some point, he seems likely to get a head coaching job.

What do the GMs think of their chances of winning a title?
Not great! The Wolves received no votes from any GM when they picked their 2025-26 title winner. Oklahoma City was the favorite at 80%. Cleveland and Denver got 7%, while the Knicks and Rockets also received votes. That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise though, considering the Thunder, who bring back all their main contributors from last season, might be better suited to repeat than any recent title winner. The GMs also predicted how teams would finish in their respective conferences. How do GMs view Anthony Edwards?
Edwards was the winner of best shooting guard in the league with 70% of the vote. He also won this category a season ago but with just 33% of the vote. Last season solidified Edwards’ place in the league among front office executives, thanks in part to his much improved three-point shooting (39.5% on 10.3 attempts per game). Edwards was in the “receiving votes” portion of the who would win MVP, with Nikola Jokic taking that with 67%.Edwards also placed second in “most athletic player” with 23%, behind Houston’s Amen Thompson at 58%. Edwards won that category with 45% a season ago.
How about the coaches?
Coach Chris Finch popped up a few times in the survey, either receiving a small percentage or in the others receiving coach categories such as “which coach runs the best offense” (10% of the vote), “which coach runs the best defense” (receiving votes). One of the big takeaways from the survey is for the second consecutive year, Wolves assistant Micah Nori was named best assistant coach in the league with 25% of the vote. Last season he split that honor with the Celtics’ Sam Cassell, but this year, Nori takes first by himself. NBA GMs say Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards is best shooting guard, Micah Nori best assistant coach
The league’s general managers think Oklahoma City will repeat as champions, with the Timberwolves ranked fourth in the West.
