National early signing day

Signing Day nationally has become much less of an event with the new calendar. There’s very little drama any more. Nearly all the interest has shifted to the Portal.

Excited for the new group of Gophers to get to campus!

Go Gophers!!

Wow....I honestly didn't even realize it was signing day. Shocking how far high school recruiting has fallen off the radar in this transfer portal era.

Signing day used to be massive around here....now it is an afterthought.

Edit - Looks like we are just waiting on the 3 California kids to wake up and sign :)

This one is really gonna sting. Maybe once GT crashes out we can circle back on him.
Maybe....maybe not. Tough to get too worked up about any high school recruit these days. Plenty of RBs in the portal as well.

Yeah he, Karmo and the other raw athletic kid from Maple Grove area were the three I was most excited about in this class, but what can you do. Got in early on him and he blew up. Could be a good one, but who knows. I’m sure plenty of kids would portal over from lesser programs.

It's ironic that this thread for signing day immediately turned into "didn't sign" day.
I agree with others. NIL has killed any interest in young people signing or committing. It seems that receiving an education is no longer relevant to most athlete's lives. They just bounce around, following the money.

In years past I would have Minnesota's 247 recruiting page up each day checking in on things. I would watch all the player videos and cross my fingers that the 4* running back, linebacker, or edge rusher from Somewhere, Georgia or wherever would choose us. Sure, I love hearing when the stud Minnesota HS seniors stay home but for the most part I don't follow it much, if at all. The chances of many of the incoming freshmen staying on the Gopher roster for 4-5 years is slim nowadays. Like someone above said...it's all about the portal.

I'm happy for all the kids who signed with Minnesota, but this class seems pretty blah!

On par with 2023 class which produced Johnson, Taylor and Brown. Last year was a nice class. Finding the right fit is going to be crucial with 105 roster.

Yeah and in my opinion a really down year in Mn HS football in terms of power 5 level talent.

Probably the thinnest since 2021 and in 2021 the top guys were higher rated

All true, but I do think class recruiting rankings are a factor in on field performance. We are at 51 last I looked...so we gotta make it up in the portal or out coach our opponents many who rank well ahead of us in recruiting.
Slotted 15th in the Big Ten Big Ten Rankings
We did seem to recruit a higher rated QB than we typically do. Maybe he is the wild card.
