Myron thinks Tubby will leave after this season

The next coaching that Tubby will do is from his easy chair of retirement.
Tubby is NOT going to take another job and will retire at Minn.

There will be a Gopher practice facility before Tubby retires.

Any team would offer him a multi-year deal worth $2 million (per) or higher.

Tubby wants to coach in NBA. He was regularly approached in early 2000's but declined each time.

That was 10 years ago when he was being approached.

I have not heard of ANY NBA teams even mention Tubby as a coach in a long time.

Even if they did I don't think Tubby would consider. Regardless of how
good you are and your coaching record the NBA does not give a very
long grace period until they demand success.
For Tubby that would mean leaving a low pressure job at Minn to the
high pressure of the NBA. The reduction of pressure was one of the
reasons he left Kentucky. You must also factor the number of games
in the NBA season and the length of the season. Tubby is not going
to put that on himself or his family as he approaches 60 years of age.

Interesting math. He was last pursued by NBA in 2005. It's 2011. My calculator says that's 6 (not 10) years.

I don't think Tubby is interested in NBA job but not for reason (lack of pressure) you listed.

A reduction in pressure had nothing to do with him changing jobs in 2007. An increase in RESPECT had everything to do with it.

Check out the bold part of FOT's post.......I'm assuming it applies to all three statements.

I Don't Think...

Tubby wants to coach in NBA. He was regularly approached in early 2000's but declined each time.

That's correct. Maybe "nuggett" misread it?

Lets not split hairs

Yes 2005 has not been 10 years
I was referring to YOUR remark (FOT) about Tubby being heavily considered in the "early 2000's"
Since this is 2011 I would consider that "early 2000's" is close to ten years for being general.
If my recollection is correct 2005 was squashed quickly.
The MAIN point was that is has been 10 years (for the most part) since Tubby has has his name
tossed around for an NBA job.

I am sure that respect played into Tubby's decision to leave UK.
There were more reason than 1
Respect was one, pressure was one, and there were others

Let's try this - he was REGULARLY sought out by NBA teams from 2001 through 2005 after his stint coaching with Larry Brown and Rudy Tomjanovich at 2000 Olympics.

Pressure was NOT one. Tubby has so stated and been quoted. I'd imagine he knows why he left.

Agreed. Not everyone has a high ceiling in terms of shooting ability. I think Nolen has done a decent job of improving his shooting.

I think the Hoffarber comment was even more ridiculous now that I think about it. Hoffarber is limited, yet somehow he's played 3 positions for the Gophers, is leading the team in scoring while not simply shooting threes, leads the team in assists (and did before we lost our pgs), gets a fair amount of rebounds considering his size/athletic ability, and also gets about a steal a game. He's only in there as a catch and shoot 3 point shooter, right Myron? He hasn't improved at all this year. We haven't seen him develop a floater, fadeaway, or midrange jumper off the dribble. Damn Tubby for not making him more athletic. I thought he'd be a slasher this year dunking on people.

I'd also argue that Nolen's jumpshot has improved. It isn't a lot better. He knocked down a few threes against Prudon't, including the game winner. Come on Myron. He's looked bad at times still, but he shot enough to keep defenses at least sort of honest; not shooting at all was the problem last year. His freethrow shooting is solid dispite his 3 point %.

Nolen's 2007-08 shooting percentage/3pt pct/FT pct: 32.7%/29.2%/76.2%

Nolen's 2010-11 shooting percentage/3pt pct/FT pct: 33.3%/30.3%/72.7%

Yeah, his "jumpshot" has really improved over the years.

Station19 thinks Myron will leave after this season.

station19: He (they) will not leave until we meet at Mable Murphy's in Fergus Falls and decide his (their) fate(s). That goes for both Myron and Tubby. :) PM me for more info, ok?

I think what we should do is make a list of actual head coaching openings that happen along the way and have Souhan & Myron tell us which ones Tubby would not be interested in. He and Myron seem to enjoy having Tubby going anywhere and everywhere (not that I don't realize it's always a possibility if the $$$ is right).

Wyoming? Does Tubby have an unscratchable itch for Laramie?

Are there any other current openings?

(this is tongue in cheek)

It's a pretty insane comment for a beat writer. Myron sees every game. It's been an absolute pleasure to watch Blake play and improve for four years with countless off the court distractions. He's stepped up and played PG because nobody else could. He takes Tubby's criticism maturely. And then our beat writer gets on a chat and says he's limited.
