What's your gut feeling about Tubby staying or leaving after this season?

Myron P. Medcalf:
"Well, a number of high-level jobs are going to open up soon. He hasn't signed an extension. There's no practice facility. He's not winning the way he wanted to.

Kind of like last year and the year before. Every year, it's the same story. The rumors will come. He won't squash them.

This year, however, I wonder how many teams will come after a 60-year-old coach with $2 million salary. Plus, why would Tubby want to rebuild now.

If he leaves, I think he'll leave to take an NBA job. See Charlotte.

Stay or go? I think he goes."

Go Gophers!!

Myron continues to shoot himself in the foot. He's improved since he first got here (which isn't saying a whole lot, but he has). His biggest problem is that he speculates WAY too much. Trever and Rodney are heading to the NBA last week. Tubby is leaving this week. Tubby doesn't seem like an NBA coach. Is he gonna run the ball-line defense there? The truth is Myron doesn't have a better idea than anyone else.

LOL! Tubby goes to Charlotte and they draft Mbakwe and Rodney Williams.

Sorry, hard to believe Charlotte situation would be more appealing than the situation here at the U.

Myron

Myron Myron Myron.

Tubby Smith coaching in the NBA?

I would say going back to High Point would make more sense than the NBA!

Sometimes I think that Myron doesn't really know very much about sports.

That's a good one.

Tubby is a defensive coach w/o a lot of offensive imagination. Bill Musselman comes to mind. No way I buy he's going to the NBA. And bottomline, if he wants to go then go. If he wants to stay then stay.

Copyright, The Clash.

Is this news? Everyone in the local media thinks Tubby is leaving. Do we need a thread about it everytime someone publishes an article?

Go Gophers!!

Myron is utterly clueless. Sort of NAIA level sportswriter in Div I media market.

The Star Tribune is getting so thin there is not enough paper to wrap your sunfish catch....

Marcus Fuller from the pioneer press writes quality stuff on the Gophers

Maybe the government should subsidize large market local papers to minimize group think, increase quality and sources...

I don't think Tubby is going anywhere...

Also In The Chat

Myron P. Medcalf: "I've said this before and I'll say it again ... Tubby's style hasn't worked for every player. I don't know if it's about connecting, but he has an old school approach that's not going to work for everybody.

I also wonder about the level of improvement. Sampson, Iverson ... thought they would have made more strides. Nolen still struggles as a jump shooter. Blake is limited in what he can do."

Yes Myron.Tubby and his staff have failed to turn Blake Hoffarber into a high flying dunker. Blake plays extremely solid fundamental basketball. Blake is limited. I don’t even know what that means Myron!

EDITED

In that little blurb it seems like Myron is questioning Tubby's coaching abilities. How can you say he isn't a good coach but he will move onto a more high profile job in such a short timeframe?

Myron should be pronounced More-On.

I value the opinion of about 10 people who post on this Board more then Myron's on this subject.

Moron Myron has proven that he clearly has no idea what he is talking about, he predicted we would lose to NW, claimed Rodney n Mbakwe are goin to the nba n now says Tubby will go to the nba. How did this idiot get this job and more importantly why hasn't he been canned?

More like, Tubby is too old school to coach college kids. Clearly he wants to try to coach the most spoiled and entitled people on the planet in the NBA.

I'm done pointing out his ineptitude, mostly because he makes it so obvious sometimes.

Sometimes I think that Myron doesn't really know very much about sports.

It may be that he has as much knowledge about BB as he needs to do an adequate job, it's just that he doesn't have the brain power, experience, or reasoning abilities to understand it?

It's just a possibility that would explain his daftness.

For me, it has gotten to the point where now I just feel bad for him.

He didn't actually say this, did he?

Sometimes Myron seems more suited for the National Enquirer. More often than not I think of him more as a gossip columnist than a beat reporter. Never once did I view Jeff Shelman as a gossip columnist.

If Tubby doesn't wanna deal with issues and drama, why in the world would he want to go to the NBA, where egos reign supreme? That makes no sense.

Holy Jesus Martha...Neither the article nor the comments make a *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#ing bit of sense.

Myron needs to be replaced.

I hope Josh Katzenstein get's the job- Minnesota Daily Gophers football and men's basketball reporter. Star Tribune freelancer.

Those of us not in that group of 10 are offended by this comment

So you plug yourself for a job that isn't vacant. Remarkable.

I'm thinking Myron is hoping for an NBA job opening. He certainly should start looking elsewhere. Just a rabble rouser trying to sell newspapers.

He didn't actually say this, did he?

HA! - No That was my part. Sorry that wasn't clear. He ONLY commented on player development and said Blake was a limited player. Get out of here Myron. We wouldn't have won half our games without the development of Blake this year.

Russo and LaVelle he's not, but he certainly keeps trying to be both a reporter and a personality.
