Myron blog: Devoe Joseph's mom: "I don't expect anything to change" "No turning back"

Either way, this will hurt MN badly. Devoe is the only player MN has that can shoot of the dribble. He is the reason MN went to the tourney last season and was All- Big Ten touney selection. Who will score from the outside versus Big Ten defenses now? Look for MN to be under .500 in Big Ten play now.

Overreact much? This team was 6-0 against a decent schedule without Devoe in the lineup. Don't get me wrong, this is a huge blow and will have big implications on this season, but now we're to expect this team to be a sub-.500 BT squad now because we lose him? I could be wrong, but I highly doubt this team will now be worse than the last two squads.

I think we need to give Myron the benefit of the doubt on this. I've been on Twitter with him this morning, and it sounds like there's more to the story...he said that he knows things he can't report. So it already sounds to me like he's digging as much as he can for the facts and reporting the story the right way. Who knows whether Devoe has serious academic issues, another personal issue or whether there's something else to all this that will cause everything to blow up and get really ugly. For now let's focus on the news of the morning, and on taking down the Hoosiers. The rest of this will run its course.

If I am a player and in my Junior year and the coach is playing someone inferior to me and the team is losing, it would be devastating.

Are you saying you would quit on your team as well?

Are you Devoe or his mom? If you aren't, how could you possibly know more than anyone else on here what the real problem was?

Because Tubby said the only thing Devoe did wrong was miss the last couple of practices. Devoes mom confirmed what I read into that. Devoe decided to leave the team after the MSU game.

Are you saying you would quit on your team as well?

Seems to me that that is a two way street. If the coach quits on me, yes I leave.

All I know is that Devoe has been stinking it up this year and we were doing pretty good until he started playing. Maybe it's better he leaves if he can't get with the program.

Some of those 3's he shot were absolute clankers and made me cringe. A total lack of focus. Right now, he's hurting more than helping us.

I would not say Tubby quit on Devoe. Devoe was getting minutes. He wasnt sitting at the end of the bench handing out gatorade.

Quitting midseason never seems like a good idea to me. Bad all around.

For KY oriented fans, Google "Linville Puckett" and/or "Bob Tallent" for somewhat similar circumstances. The coach always wins a dispute between player and coach.

Tallent became A-A at George Washington U after he left UK but Puckett didn't do much.

This is complete nonsense. Against WI Devoe had 14 pts and 7 assists in 21 mins. Nolen had zero points in that game and 2 assists. Then Nolen plays 30 mins versus MSU and we lose and you want to blame Devoe? Devoe's 3 pt shooting percentage is very close to Hoffs. Comparing non conference wins against mediocre teams with two road Big Ten losses is hilarious. How soon people forget what Devoe did last season.

Tubby is a deffensive coach, always had been, and I would guess, always will be. Which PG plays the best defense, Al or Devoe? Al. If Devoe wants to see the floor more, get in the gym and play DEFENSE. Being a stud offensive player will help you dominate at some schools in college, but if you can't play defense? I hope you earned your degree.

Devoe is probably my favorite Gopher and I am sad to see him go and feel like he is making a mistake transfering his Junior year. BUT if he isn't willing to put in the work deffensivley to take those minutes from Al, then that is his issue and not Tubby's. Great basketball players find their weaknesses and improve on them by seeking help and spending hours working. I bet if Devoe asks Al after practice to help him with his defense and getting quicker that Al wouldn't say no.

If Devoe could play defense, no doubt in my mind he starts. Maybe not over Al, but most likely over Rodney and we go a three guard line up. As much as people talk down about Rodney, he is a better deffender than Devoe right now.

Well Tubby is going to lose this one because MN isn't going anywhere this season without Devoe.

It ain't over till he hands in papers. However, there's no question that this is definitely trending in the wrong direction. Losing Devoe would be a huge blow, there's no question. Sure, he hasn't performed all that well this year (although much of that is the ridiculous expectations that have been placed on him by fans at times). But even with Devoe not playing to his full potential, he's miles ahead of whoever will be his replacement this year. Plus, he gives us an outside shooter, which is something we need. Nobody besides Blake has shown the ability to consistently hit treys this year. We need players to hit threes to open up the middle for our bigs. If Devoe goes, this will be rough on our team. However, it doesn't necessarily have to be fatal. Chemistry goes a long way. If Devoe was negatively affecting the chemistry, maybe we will be better off without him, though I very much doubt it. The big story is more turmoil for this team. Tubby's going to start earning his money. I still think this team can do big things, though there are some obvious issues they need to fix. It's just so frustrating to have high hopes derailed once again. For any young fans reading this board, I've only got one thing to tell you: Welcome to Minnesota sports, things will probably be like this your whole life. /still getting over 12 men in the huddle.

I agree, Devoe has not played poorly offensivley. His 3-Pt shooting has been a little shaky, IMO, some of those against WI, were questionable. But he has been getting to the hoop well, passing well, and MAKING HIS FREE THROWS. If he could play defense, he would be a very very good player. When your coach is deffensive minded, you need to straighten out that part of your game if you want to play more.

We were doing just fine a few weeks ago without Devoe.

Agree. Yes, we can definitely use an engaged Devoe. But from what I've seen this year, some of Royce White's advisers have gotten to him.

Fly straight and get with the program or go away. If you choose the latter, have fun during your half season next year or full season beginning 1.5 years from now. And I don't see either of those ending on the AA team - at least not the good one.

I don't think Tubby has a lot of patience with a gunslinger who plays marginal D. Does anyone remember Westbrook? We need to take good shots and play as a team as there are no stars on this squad. Team chemistry is important and, IMO has been lacking. Like I posted, tonights game will tell us a lot.

I'm still trying to get over the Herschel Walker trade.

That is what everyone is tossing against the wall and see what sticks...is this basically Devoe's fault or is it Tubby's. Personally instinct says it is Devoe's. Backing that up is if there was something against Tubby in this, I would think Myron would implicate Tubby in some way. If I remember correctly in past articles, Myron has made reference to not fully agreeing with Tubby in how he handles the team.

A home game against Indiana will tell us a lot? Have we sunk that low? Is this our benchmark for success? Devoe Joseph is no Westbrook. I fully expect to win tonight, if not, the season is totally lost. If this team is going to salvage this season it will come on the backs of freshmen, not Nolen. I can't see it happening.

Very few know the pain of seeing the Giants moving to San Francisco with Willy Mays when they were clearly supposed to be coming here to play in the new Metropolitan Stadium.

This followed fairly closely by the Lakers moving to LA with Elgin Baylor.

As is the case with most relationships that go south, it is rarely the fault of just one of the participants.

It isn't all on Devoe. It isn't all on Tubby/staff.

There are likely things that both sides would do over if given the chance.

You mean to tell me that there are 2 sides to every story? ;)

I agree with you in that my personal hunch is that this is Devoe's issue, not Tubby's. But even if there is something on Tubby here, it's the journalistically and morally responsible thing to not sling rumors around until you can back them up with facts. If Myron does have something on Tubby - and that's a BIG if - no doubt he's trying to first make sure it's accurate and get the whole story, and not just something a mother might have written to him at 4 a.m. Again, this will all run its course...I'm not going to lose any sleep worrying about it.

devoe should have started over blake! hoff is our worst perimeter defender and he is playing sg but can't create his own shot. devoe is not a pg, tubby is a great coach but I feel tubby didn't play to devoes strengths by making him play pg! I still think our best lineup is/was al pg, devoe sg, hoff sf/g, mbakwe pf, and iverson c. sampson takes more dumb ass shots than anyone and hardly rebounds

Devoe finally came up to against a coach that will run the show/team and Devoe does not like it!!! I am not surprised Cory did not come here now!! Many times the athletes run the team/show when it should be the coach.

Do you think Rick Barnes let's the kids run the show at Texas? I don't think he's any different from Tubby in that regard. If Devoe thinks he can make his own rules, he is in for a shock at whatever D1 school he chooses.

Mom, this is Devoe. Can you come pick me up? I don't like it here no more; Tubby won't let me play (sniffle, sniffle).

Thanks Mom, and can you bring my spare bong? Coach broke my other one.

So he has more assists than Nolen in 1 game and this means he's getting the shaft? Are you serious? Sure Devoe scores more points. What else is new? We all know that Al isn't an offensive threat. He brings strong pressure D and good floor leadership to the table. And Tubby prioritizes those over scoring. That's why Nolen plays more. If Devoe isn't cool with that than MN isn't the place for him.

Also, North Carolina and West Virginia are mediocre teams? Really? Because MSU has been a real world beater thus far. When the season shakes out I think we'll find that both of those wins will remain quality wins for us.

I'd suggest Mississippi State for Devoe. The inmates run the asylum there. Seems like a good fit.

The coach/player dynamic should be very similar to the relationship of a commanding officer/private dynamic. Unless the coach/commanding officer did something torrid or illegal, the vast majority of the blame in this type of situation should be placed on the player/private.

Step in line or leave. It's that simple.

Oh sure, play the 'I'm older than you card'. Just barely remember those, I was pretty young.

I do remember going to a game with my parents(Mpls Millers vs New Your Giants, with Willie Mays)-must have been at Nicollet Park? Exibition game, Millers were NYG farm club.

WOW - you saw Willy at Nic Park - I'm sooooo Jealous. I sorta remember that exhibition game but did not go - I was pretty young then too. :)
