Myron blog: Devoe Joseph's mom: "I don't expect anything to change" "No turning back"

This could be a good thing but lets see how the guys react against IU.

Wow!! I guess Devoe finally came up to against a coach that will run the show/team and Devoe does not like it!!! I am not surprised Cory did not come here now!! Many times the athletes run the team/show when it should be the coach. I am of the belief that I will lose with out you before I win with you!!!! Devoe is throwing away a great opportunity to learn from a great mentor/coach/person. I know this for a fact!!!!

WOW

Now I'm really curious. Time for a Johnny Gopher post.

Mom

"No there’s [no turning back]," she said Tuesday. "I'm going with him [Tuesday] morning to pick up his release papers. He wishes the team well. It’s a tough thing."

This all makes no sense to me and reminds me of Moe Hargrow.

I wish Devoe luck.

Next up, Indiana.

Go Gophers.

Well I guess that's that. Everyone pray for Al's foot. As long as it holds up, this can still be a good team. If it doesn't....

I fogot to mention...

I forgot to mention, "My team is on the floor!"

Go Gophers!!

Exactly. That will tell a lot. It would be nice to see some passion out there for the first time in several games. It's time to move on and develop Armelin and Hollins. Put 'em on the court for bigger minutes and let them play through a few errors. They will play hard.

Does anyone else find it interesting in Myron's article the following lines.

When you get an email at 3:49 a.m., you know you're dealing with a serious situation.

"I’m extremely, extremely surprised … really disappointed," said a sobbing Connie Joseph. "Devoe had dreams of playing for the Gophers."

Ok so if he got an email at 3:49 am this morning I want to know how he knew that Ms. Joseph was sobbing?? Did she write the email and then with those final lines put I am sobbing over this? It makes it sound like he did an interview with her with the way the quotes are at the end.

I don't know this type of stuff just bugs me because I think Myron is adding drama to this by putting stuff in there like that. I am sure Ms. Joesph is disappointed that it is not working out but at the same time this makes it sound like Tubby is a bad person/coach and it was his fault, which to me is a joke.

To the Josephs's get over yourself, no one is bigger then a team and when you say your son had dreams of playing for the Gophers, well guess what, he was, it's his decision he is no longer playing with them, not Tubby's.

I wonder if he will make a lateral move or move to a much worse team.

I think his ego believes he could start at a top 10 program though..

Always better to let / help an unhappy young man find happiness somewhere else.

About 25% to 30% of Div I scholarship players transfer - those % are my estimates only.

If you include signees, I think the number is around 40%.

If a kid doesn't want to be here, then he shouldn't be here.

Any good reporter would follow up with a phone call. Either that or he's just assuming and making crap up

Well, blame Myron for being unclear. I noticed this too, but just assumed that the email prompted a follow-up phone call. But it is Myron, so who knows.

I've wondered this too. At minimum, I don't understand why he doesn't finish the year. Does he really think he's going to walk into a high BCS school midway through the season next year and see significant minutes? His best chance to play is to sit out all of next year and have a full 2012-13 season somewhere. In that case, he may as well finish the season here. But I guess if he and Tubby are completely on the outs, that's not an option.

Perhaps he received the email and then called her . . .

He could have but then put that in there that he later on contacted her to speak in person. Its just the norm by him crappy reporting all around and making it sound like it's Tubby's fault this is happening.

Maybe his brother Cory has been putting a bug in Devoe's ear to come to Texas??? It's kinda coincidental that Devoe has been doing just fine until Cory started playing at Texas.

IMO. Momma joseph not doing him any favors by welcoming her "baby" home. So much for teaching your kids a lesson about fighting adversity.

So disappointing. However, the team played well in Puerto Rico without Devoe and have been stinking it up ever since he came back in the lineup. Maybe his bad attitude has been infecting all the players. If this is the case, then I'm glad he's gone.

Mo

Wasn't Devoe rooming with Mo?

If so we need to get Mo a new roommate. I definitely hope to see Mo here for another 3 plus years.

"The decision to transfer, it’s a difficult decision," she said during a phone call Tuesday. "It’s not a good situation. … It’s not something that’s taken lightly and it’s a difficult thing to do. Having said that, it’s something that Devoe has [decided to do]."

Here you go guys.

He's been a disaster this year. Totally different player than a year ago.

I think the team is better without him. I hope he finds happiness where he lands.

The only relationship I see between Cory and this situation, is Devoe possibly hearing the differences in coaching styles between Barnes and Tubby. Not based on any fact whatsoever, but I could see if Barnes runs a little more "player friendly" system, that Devoe could get a little more irritated when Tubby yells.

I doubt Devoe goes to Texas, Cory will likely be gone (NBA) before Devoe would play a minute.

Iowa State would be my best guess ... those Hoiberg eyes.

This is a big blow. All of you blaming drugs or academics were wrong. This is about a player and a coach not seeing eye to eye. Devoe is unhappy about losing and only playing half the game. Against WI Devoe goes off for 14 pts and 7 assists in 21 mins. Nolen had zero points andl ike 2 assists. Then we go to MSU and Devoe plays 20 mins to Nolen's 30 mins.

If I am a player and in my Junior year and the coach is playing someone inferior to me and the team is losing, it would be devastating. Tubby is asking Devoe to play out of position and back up an inferior player. Why? Probably to make apoint because of Devoe's problems earlier this year.

Either way, this will hurt MN badly. Devoe is the only player MN has that can shoot of the dribble. He is the reason MN went to the tourney last season and was All- Big Ten touney selection. Who will score from the outside versus Big Ten defenses now? Look for MN to be under .500 in Big Ten play now.

Its hard to feel sorry for him. He has had every chance to be a team player and improve his skills. It seemed this year when he played he took some awful shots and didn't always get his teammates involved. Too quit in the middle of the season really doesn't show a lot of character and loyalty to his team. But that's his decision and hope he enjoys playing for southwest middle texas state-lubbock.

This is a big blow. All of you blaming drugs or academics were wrong.
Are you Devoe or his mom? If you aren't, how could you possibly know more than anyone else on here what the real problem was?

Or he's playing him at PG b/c he's, ya know, better then the other backup? Just tossing that out there...

And while Al is certainly not the offensive threat the Devoe is, he is typically a much better floor manager and is usually better at getting the team going in the offense. IMHO of course.
