MTSU

I'm not disrespecting MTSU's band, just respecting ours. I'll take the Rotating M over spelling out Ohio any day. (How hard can it be to spell out Ohio? :p ) In the battle of the bands, it is best to have a worthy opponent.

Quick search didn't come up with a good forming of the M and marching off, but here is a really really really fast version of it: Start at about the 1 minute mark.

See - I like that. I wish MT could do something like that. I in no way question the tradition in MN, in fact I used to route for them, back when Russell and Maroney were tearing it up. ( whatever happened to Russell - a shame).

It's been fun watching MT, just as they became D - 1, beating vandy 3 out of 3 times, barely losing to Bama and Georgia, and coming a foot away from beating a very good bowl winning UK team, to now being able to legitimately compete with teams and not have to sneak up on them anymore.

Maybe one day we'll get it looking as organized as MN, until then - I'll just settle for beating MN on the path to earning respect.

I'm as big an MT fan as anyone and in one of the games against Bama we were robbed and in the other we played respectably, but they beat us by a fair margin, but you seem to be misremembering the Georgia game, granted we covered the spread, but it was 23-3 with 3 minutes left in the game and we each scored a garbage time touchdown to make the final 29-10.

We'll also be looking forward to your band. It's rare that we get visiting bands in Murfreesboro as most Sun Belt schools send only a pep band, if that. Troy and Middle Tennessee both have outstanding bands, after that there are a few decent ones, but most of them are pretty terrible.

Our marching band will not be traveling to this game. The best you're going to be able to get is some awesome youtube videos. This game falls smack in the middle of band camp. Even if we could come up with the money to go we wouldn't have very much ready to perform.

Here's a pretty good video of it. It's a weird angle and you can't hear the band at all, but the emotion is captured pretty well. :)

Whatever man, you guys will be wowed when you come to MT - our band plays earth wind and fire (every year). we have a dude in the color guard and for some reason he wears the same uniforms as the girls, and we make this cool shape with our marching band - i think it's an amoeba. It's cool though, cause we're crazy like that - The band will get into the MN football teams head and take it to dark places, from which they won't return -- err or something like that...

After they lose - every time they hear earth wind and fire - you can bet they'll break into tears..

Now I'm worried! I don't like the whole amoeba thing. This really could ruin our whole mind-set. I don't like this at all...

Just FYI, the Mt Band of Blue doesn't spell out MT because #1. That's old school and they've done it in the WAY back past and #2. It seriously just doesn't look good. I danced with the band for 4 years, so believe me, I know. As far as the guy in color guard, he may be a dude, but he's AMAZING! He competes Nationally every year and nobody can beat him, seriously. That's why MTSU has him. And we don't do "amoeba's." When you have a band with about 320 people, believe it or not, formations are hard to do, so we actually have a computer system that syncs our formations and creates them with the music. We have wanted to changed Pre-Game for the past 3 years and the university won't let us. It's too much of a "tradition" apparently. I think the band will have some new hiphop tunes this year. And of course, they will ALWAYS play "Family Guy." But that kinda surprises me that the U of M band has band camp during a game. That's the first time I've heard of a college band doing that. At MTSU we ALWAYS have it the entire week before school actually starts.

Well that's the thing. Our school won't have started by then. We don't ever start until after Labor Day meaning that classes start on the 7th for us. That's probably one of the reasons were AT MTSU anyway, instead of playing at home. The state fair ties up so much of our campus's space that we can't have a home football game that weekend. (at least that's one of the reasons I've heard)

The State Fair is the reason. The U's parking lots are used as Park and Ride lots for the State Fair Labor Day weekend. When we were at the Dome, it wasn't an issue. I suppose it could be revisited when the contract with the State Fair expires.

Wow. That would suck having your campus used for the State Fair. MTSU holds all of the High School State Championships, and most are during the school year. They shut down parking lots (which MTSU parking is already ridiculous anyway) and the shut down roads. It's the biggest mess ever. I know alot of students get frustrated because we pay tuition and all of that is taken away from us for at least 2-3 weeks out of a school year. It's definitely a pain.

The same thing happens our parking when hockey and basketball tourneys are going on. It's always the time where I really wish i didn't work for Parking here at the U. Big mess.

Are any of y'all coming to the MTSU vs. Minnesota game on the 2nd? If so, I can tell you what to do, where to stay, where to eat and go out, etc. We are smack talkers but we also have Southern Hospitality! Plus, the Nashville area (which MTSU is only 30 miles away from) is known as the Friendliest City in the US.

Oh boy

"OUR first game will really show just how good or bad we really are!" Not really, our first Big ten game will really say allot. MTSU looks, smells, talks, and for some, is a great team that will beat us. They are far from great and we are far from being the 98th best team in the country. We will handle these guys and Weber will beat them himself.

A lot of this information is already compiled at BlueRaiderZone in the Gameday Visitor's Guide.

You have a magnificent gift for hyperbole.

I did pull a "bush style" misremberization. I've been following and going to about 80% of the games since 2002 - went to both bowl games. I remember that bama game from my freshman year, with reshard lee making a ton of amazing plays, and the same year when we played UT - I wanted to puke at the officiating. Calico's catch near the goal line, when they showed the replay..

If you ever catch the old re-runs on CSS, you can hear all the MT fans with the B.S. chant over the broadcast.. Also, Hicks fumbles that looked like they crossed the goaline well before he lost control.. ( MN if you ever play UT - you have my blessing to destroy them )

I was at that game, and it's pretty much the reason why I despise anything orange with a T on it..

I'm glad replay is such a big part of the game now - there would still be a lot of game's that we probably just wouldn't be allowed to compete in.

OH yeah, Gopher Fan's - you can thank us for sending kelly Holcomb to look after Brett Favre's spot on the bench until he got there.

MTSU did finish 10-3. but before we start shaking in our boots, let's look at who they played using the Sagarin ratings, for what they are worth.

Their toughest 4 opponents were #22 Clemson, #45 Mississippi State, #69 Troy and #77 Southern Miss. Ours were #6 OSU, #9 Iowa, #10 Penn State and #23 Wisconsin.

Their lowest rated opponent was #187 Western Kentucky. Ours was #101 South Dakota State. MTSU played 8 opponents that were rated lower than our lowest rated opponent.

On the other hand, before we get cocky, we did lose to #94 Illinois and had to squeak past #101 South Dakota State. I think its a game we should be confident about, but there's no room for cockiness, and no room to take the game lightly.

MTSU will have our full attention, as we aren't going to be looking past them to South Dakota.

to many cogs to pull together to be confident on this one. But I agree the talent levels of the teams heavily favors the Gophers. I'm just not sure they'll be as prepared as MTSU. I don't know how much that will matter.
