MTSU

How about a friendly wager on the game: If MTSU wins, we give them all the lutefisk they can eat. Note that I said all they can eat, not all they want to eat. There is a profound difference.

And for those MTSU fans saying "what's lutefisk?", it's a traditional holiday food. Some people actually enjoy it.

Thanks, but no thanks. I watch Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern.

Of course you would...he's a Minnesota guy after all. (O.K. he's a transplant...O.K. and only stayed here after a stint in Hazelden. But he's all ours). Man...he eats some disgusting sh*t.

My family is not one that partakes of lutefisk, but there are many people up here for whom it's not Christmas if there isn't lutefisk. It's a Pavlovian thing. They have it at Christmas, so it tastes like Christmas to them. For them, Christmas without lutefisk is like Christmas without snow (crystaline frozen water which falls from the sky, for our southern friends), or a State Fair without a Pronto Pup (Like a corn dog only better).

I think it's a very scary game for us. If you'll recall, last yr's opening at Syracuse was extremely tough, against an opponent that had a new coach and a new system. That was a game we were all talking a bout winning by 3 td's and it went into overtime. If we can't win THIS year's opening on the road against a much better team than Syracuse, I'm sure it will raise a lot of eyebrows around town. If we win, on the other hand, it could be a really good omen for the season. Who knows!! that's why I love college football.

based on this article, in JUNE it topped out at 142 heat index on the field in Murfreesboro.

So, you could make the argument that MTSU will have been better conditioned, and the humidity will really be the main factor. If you watched them play last year, they really turned it on late in games. Southern Miss thought they already had the game won when they went up by 14 early, and ended up being down by as much as 17: and Southern miss certainly had a much more potent offense than MN, Brown & Baptiste - will be high round picks . and their RB Damien Fletcher broke the NCAA record for career yardage. I would say MN Defense should be slight better, but sooo many new face - 9 starters.. we'll see.

New Orleans bowl highlights. MT vs. USM

I'd say the humidity is the bigger factor, on average it is higher in TN than MN. It's more that you wear the heat down here.

However, all this talk is just talk. The fact that we're so bored that we've stooped to looking at weather reports - JUST PROOF THAT IT NEEDS TO HURRY UP AND BE FOOTBALL SEASON ALREADY!!!

Whether it is hot and humid or not has no bearing on team conditioning. MTSU might be more used to heat and humidity, dealing with it from sun up to sun down, and beyond, but that is the end of the story.

Typical July day today in Minneapolis

Heat index of 105.

Weather reports are irrelevant.

What is important is Minnesota vs. MTSU in NCAA Football 11. Minnesota beat MTSU in NCAA Football 11, and that's all the evidence we need, because NCAA 11 is a perfect simulation. So long as it goes my way.

Will the band play Rocky Top at the game?

Heat index of 105.

". During running drills on Tuesday, the heat index reached 118 degrees inside Floyd Stadium. Patterson said one day in June the heat index topped off at 142 degrees on the turf."

Then it's a good thing we aren't playing in June.

LOL, I heard that! I gotta say, I'm a little dissapointed. Dwight Dasher 1st overall in rushing yards by a QB and he's an 84 speed .. uhm.. ok E.A. .. Game play is good though..

1,154 rushing yards and 13 scores.. EA. you are really dumb sometimes.. I saw they even F'd up the MN roster.

I don't think they'll be playing rocky top -there are no Mountains in Middle TN. It's cool man, I'll buy you a globe - we'll get you help. Will we be hearing "on Wisconsin" from your band?

Adam Weber and -gazillion yards.

You've got nothing on us.

seriously prepared to get picked apart by a very hungry and talented offense with a huge chip on their shoulder. And they're going to take it all out on poor MTSU.

I am looking forward to watching Dasher though.

.. weber threw 13 ints and 15 tds.. he's a 5th year senior.. I hear decker likes how he's practicing this year though, if that means anything.. I think brewster would go with a younger guy if this wasn't a make or break season for him. Also, i was off - Dasher was i think 3rd or something for rushing qbs. close enough. Just thought i'd point that out before some troll threw a tantrum.

what do you mean? You don't like fish soaked in poison? You Tennesseans are crazy.
We usually take our poison straight up and strong enough to run our cars.

Will the band play Rocky Top at the game?
You've got the wrong school in TN. The Band of Blue will play the Tennessee Waltz after the game, and probably some funk tunes during halftime.

Well...

Since it's really "On Minnesota", why not? The song was entered into a contest to be Minnesota's school song, we rejected it, so the writer made a minor change and submitted it to Becky.

At the 2004 Music City Bowl against Alabama, our band played Rocky Top because the game was in Tennessee. Alabama fans were outraged, claiming that we were trying to smack them by playing their rival's song. For one, if we want to smack them, we'd play our songs. The Minnesota Rouser worked quite nicely. If Alabama's band had played "On Wisconsin", then we'd just think they were a little weird. But if the game was played in Wisconsin (why not a bowl game at Lambeau Field in late December?) then we would understand.

Up here, we remember the song Rocky Top from when it was just a song, from before it was adopted by Tennessee. We really weren't all that aware of the Alabama - Tennessee rival, a fact which itself probably didn't please the Alabama fans too much.

I second that emotion...

U of M could play Battle Hymn of the Republic.

Or the "Fightin' 69th". I lived in the south for 8 years, Alabama 4, Georgia 4. I have heard enough "War of Northern Aggression" B.S. to last a lifetime. I have no problem giving them some musical needling. We are not rivals and a game like this is a change of pace for both of us. I would love to go to the game and enjoy a Saturday in a different stadium, hang out and tailgate, find a rib shack and enjoy myself. I can't make it, but would love to hear what everybody thinks after the trip.

I believe the words to that one go:

We don't give a F*** about the whole state of Iowa
The whole state of Iowa
The whole state of Iowa
We don't give a F*** about the whole state of Iowa
We are the U of M!
Glory, glory Minnesota!
Glory, glory Minnesota!
Glory, glory Minnesota!
We are the U of M!

It also is appropriate for Michigan, Illinois, and oddly enough... Tennessee!

Whatever man, you guys will be wowed when you come to MT - our band plays earth wind and fire (every year). we have a dude in the color guard and for some reason he wears the same uniforms as the girls, and we make this cool shape with our marching band - i think it's an amoeba. It's cool though, cause we're crazy like that - The band will get into the MN football teams head and take it to dark places, from which they won't return -- err or something like that...

After they lose - every time they hear earth wind and fire - you can bet they'll break into tears..

Remember the line from Crocodile Dundee: "That's not a knife. THIS is a knife."

Well, it will be the same thing with the band. "That's not a band. THIS is a band."

Now this is one thing I'm certain of, the Pride of Minnesota will not show up the Band of Blue. You may have a very good band, maybe even a better band(though that's rarely the case for the Band of Blue) but the Band of Blue will put on a show and the Minnesota fans will be impressed.

That will be a nice change from seeing Iowa and Wisconsin fans vomiting as entertainment.

We'll also be looking forward to your band. It's rare that we get visiting bands in Murfreesboro as most Sun Belt schools send only a pep band, if that. Troy and Middle Tennessee both have outstanding bands, after that there are a few decent ones, but most of them are pretty terrible.

Yeah, PiKapp, our band is actually good. I was at the Na'Wlins bowl when they smoked southern miss in the battle of the bands. My only wish is that they could somehow find a way to march in the shape of an M and a T - it doesn't seem too complicated. I'm not a big fan of that amoeba shape they've been doing for the past 8 yrs.. I admit though , i don't know ish* about marching bands..

Quick search didn't come up with a good forming of the M and marching off, but here is a really really really fast version of it: Start at about the 1 minute mark.
