More John Nestors, please!!!

probably a coach’s kid.

He is a coach's kid.

Quarterback caught him….

Quarterback had a clear angle.

The guy had 2 interceptions, 1 fumble recovery, 9 tackles 2 tackles for loss, was our highest graded player by PFF (again) & has a legit chance to be named B1G Defensive Player of the Week.

He's our top rated player this season of defense & is tied for 3rd in the country in interceptions despite missing 2 games.

Exactly right. Dude had one of the best single game stat lines in recent FBS history, quite literally. He will 100% be Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.

I can't imagine the amount of distress that our victory over Wisconsin caused you. You can't go full bore negativity into the offseason, you have to temper your bullshit with pseudo logical arguments on why the team or staff sucks until the transfer window opens up or if we lose our bowl game. You couldn't even be complimentary to the team in post game threads. I'm sorry your life sucks, man. It's gotta be hell if you're only able to find satisfaction coming in here shitting on the team and players after keeping the Axe
Beating Wisconsin never causes me distress. Ever.

We were 7-5. We will go to a bowl. If you watched the games at all this season, the record is the best thing we've got this season.

If you want to make up reasons why I do or don't post, and when I do or don't, have at it. I won't stop you.

Nestor made some good plays this year. He is also a starting CB on the worst secondary we've had in in 15 years, primarliy because of the CB play. He also came from a program that absolutely kicked our ass this year and would not have seen the field there, so no I'm not clammoring for more players like him.

So given your insesant need to focus only on the positive - I'm excited that Nestor was out of position again to make that INT that led to the game sealing score. It was nice of him to allow the statue at QB Wisconsin had on the field at that point to let the offense get credit for scoring more points. What a dominant win over one of the best 4-8 teams in the country in a snow storm. That was an epic win.

I think many of your critisms are valid, but not on Nester's 2nd interception. IMO, he was in position and cut the route for the interception. Most interceptions occur because player is proper position and a pass isn't perfect. Majority of passes are not perfect, so being in that position let him make the play. Anyway, he had a great game and PPF backed it up with their rating of him Saturday.
BTW, you are a bit like Bonin on the hockey board.😉

Ridiculous. He was not burned on that play and completely jumped that route. Receiver even tried to use the umpire to create a rub.
I didn't say he was burned, but if the

I don't have access to PFF data, so if he scored out as great in that game, good for him. I'm glad he finished the regular season on a high note.

To me he looks like a real lunch pail and hard hat kind of guy. Probably first one at the facility and last to leave. Has deceptive speed.
A real student of the game, probably a coach’s kid. The kind of guy you would want dating your daughter.

His Dad was a high school coach when Nestor was at Iowa.

I think you're being a bit overly negative caliGopher, but you are correct that we had one of the worst secondaries in years and John Nestor came here because he would have been a backup at Iowa. I think he gets on the field there, but not as a starter.

We tried to hide our corners against the best teams we played and got DESTROYED because it hurt the whole defense. To me, he is clearly a step slow against elite competition.

I love John Nestor as a player. I've said over and over this year that his best position is at safety where his smarts, size and toughness would be optimized. The problem is we have too many good safeties and not enough good corners which is why we see him out there. His versatility should be applauded. He played his best games against slower, less athletic teams or, with Wisconsin, in a snowstorm.

Awesome game by him!!! Now go get some starting caliber corners in the portal this offseason and find out a way to play him more at safety, at big nickel or as almost a third linebacker, a lot of what we saw them doing with Koi (6'1-200) this year and Jack Henderson (6'2-215) last year. John Nestor is 6'1-205. I think he has a chance at making an NFL roster, but NOT as a corner.

You mean besides being a step behind the receiver and if Wisconsin had a QB that could throw a pass to lead the reciever he would have been burned, again, for a long gain?

He caught the ball thrown right to him, so that was good, but there were a lot of bad plays from him in between a handful of good ones.

We can do better then poaching a guy that would not have seen the field at Iowa this year.
He pushed off his hip and jumped the route Nestor was catching that ball regardless, really a stupid play by their QB, The other pick Mav made a great play to tip it, I agree Nestor been burned a couple times, made some bad plays when overmatched but for the most part he was solid and we missed him and Devin Williams against NW

I was about to say if we could move him into the nickel role I think he would thrive their, but need to add guys and develop younger guys on the outside to make it happen

Yeah....I really don't get the attitude some have in regards to Nestor. There is very little doubt that our defense was better with him on the field then it was without him.

And he played the game of his life on Saturday. Got to the point where the announcers started pulling the "guess who" stuff on our defenses plays because it always seemed to be Nestor.

I sincerely hope he is back there for us again next year.

Well said. Nestor has been good, but not great. Better teams were able to exploit him. But as you said, we were better with him than without. And he was fantastic on Saturday. Who knows if we even win that game if he's not making big plays all over the field. I'll remember it as the Snow Globe/John Nestor Axe game.

To some of the above comments, Nestor at a 75.6 PFF grade in pass coverage, is #10 in the conference for those CBs playing at least half the snaps. That's pretty decent. He's #8 in run defense at 78.4. He could be a bubble all conference honorable mention. Meanwhile, Iowa has two CBs in the top 5. Nestor found a place he could prove himself.

For comparison, Robinson and Walley last year were a few spots lower in the high teens...but there were two of them. The next best Gopher CBs this is year are Bryan and McMillan in the 40s.

Still, it seems like defensive scheme was off in most games this year.
