MinnPost Article on Scheduling (or why no Minnesota vs St. Thomas game yet)

On the bright side, Minnesota teams have a chance to beat Bears AND Packers tomorrow 😉

Basically the vast majority of those on GI fear that the Gophers would have nothing to gain by playing UST. As if it matters in the NET as the Gophers are going nowhere in the post season. On the other hand UST would have less to gain and more to lose as they are ranked higher than the Gophers but would welcome the game. How about creating a cross town rivalry of sorts which would help get a few more butts in the seats. Maybe the MN legislature should pass a bill that requires them to schedule each other like Iowa/ISU in football.

That's a depressing article. What a loser's mentality our coach has.

Well, he's done a lot of losing, so maybe that's where the mentality comes from.

For the record (and it isn't good), here is Ben Johnson in Big Ten games in his career:

AS A PLAYER: 14-60 (.219)
AS AN ASSISTANT COACH: 36-72 (.333)
AS A HEAD COACH: 15-46 (.246)
TOTAL: 65-168 (.279)

17% of the Big Ten wins came in the 11-7 season of 2017 at Minnesota. That is the only season Ben Johnson has ever had a winning Big Ten record in any of his 14+ seasons in the Big Ten.

That is a lot of losing. Yikes.

This should be pinned to the top

Seems statistically valid at this point. That's a lot of games.

"Embrace The Suck" just became much clearer to me.

The GI crowd is scared of st Thomas. Nothing to gain they say. 🤷‍♂️
We're quickly approaching the "nothing to lose" stage for the Gophers, so maybe they'll change their tune. Kind of weird to make that statement when UST has been rated metrically higher than the Gophers at multiple stages of the Ben Johnson tenure.

I'd be down to play UST every year, provided we don't have to pay more than the minimum $ amount for them to drive 3.5 miles from UST to the Barn. UST is closer to the barn than parts of the U's St. Paul campus.

NCAA oversight committee votes to shorten transition period. Tommies eligible this fall for post season if the meet requirements.

That's always been nonsense. If you're good enough to worry about UST, you aren't afraid of losing to them.

Those folks just don't have the stomach to say "I don't want to play St. Thomas because we will be mocked if we lose to them".

As a person with more Tommie connections than gopher connections (attended both) I can fully make Tommie basketball my co-team

In football I’ll just never be interested in the tommies

I think ust will make their first ncaa tourney before the gophers make their next one.
The real question is who goes to the second round first. I would bet on the gophers.

Unless St. Thomas moves conferences quickly I agree. St. Thomas might go to 10 straight tournaments as the Summit Champ, but not sure it equates to tournament success.

Meh they'll choke against the rabbits or the Bison. How it works for everyone else in Sioux falls in that league
I’m not sure it’ll work the same in the transfer portal era.
Those two are going to put all their resources into football.
St Thomas is putting all theirs into basketball and hockey

The last time one of those two won the tournament title without winning the regular season title was 18-19
