Minnesota vs Penn State Post Game Thread

Do we win today if our players say no to gang bangs?

I don't think Hardin gets beat like Shenault did on that pass to Hamilton. Other than that, I think everything goes about the same.

Claeys is rippable. But Sawvel needs to take blame well. I said this last week, aside from#92, when is the last time a DE made a play? Did Hank Ekpe even play today?

Last year, fifth season of a new program, Gophers win five in regular season. This year, with much easier schedule, they'll be lucky to win six. Consistently, Kill regime teams can't put opponents away. Every game, even against weak non-cons, seems to go to the wire. Today, every time the defense absolutely had to make a stop, they couldn't. Some decent play-calling on offense, but way too many runs between the tackles for nothing. Not a lot of imagination shown on offense. And you have to be concerned when a freshman QB kills you with long passes.

McSorley is a sophomore.

Yes he did play. I know because the announcers told me 73 times that the Ekpe brothers are both playing.

Here's the thing I've noticed about the Epke brothers. They always give a hand to the opposing players. They're are kind and gentle.

as much as i kinda respect that mentality in a weird sort of way - **** it. let em pick their own asses up this isnt pop warner

I don't understand the love for Kiffin. He failed at two head coaching jobs. Jobs where recruiting wasn't nearly as difficult as at Minnesota. Not my first choice. I think P.J. Fleck is the next star in the coaching world.

this would make a lot more sense if it were impossible to improve from things like experience, or learning under the best of all time, or you know, not being in your 30s when you get those HC jobs.

he's doesnt turn 42 until next year get a grip he's still a youngin

Here's my gripe...after the favorable face mask that gave the Gophs a 1st down on the 19, there was 2:09 on the clock. It started running on the refs mark…Mitch hiked the ball with :12 still on the play clock. Instead of :54 left for PSU, there would’ve been :42. Mitch should've run that clock down.

This team will finish the year 8-4 and head to a fun bowl game. Bank on it

I suppose 8-4 is possible, but 7-5 looks more likely. It's easy to be glum right now given how the defense has been very erratic all year, but people have to give some credit to the PSU quarterback. The guy really knew how to get rid of the ball just in time and throw on the run. The Gophers may not face a QB performance that good for the rest of the year.

Till next week anyway

I can't tell if you're being serious about the QB thing. Beathard will be far superior next week...and if you think we had trouble containing Marty McFly from escaping the pocket today, wait until we face Tommy Armstrong. I agree with your record prediction, however...

ayyy guys for real stop trying to project records for the season - its a worthless exercise.

if the focus on winning the next game isnt enough for you, ESPECIALLY when its a division foe and arch rival who has a trophy we want real bad i dont know what to say.

Concerned if our OL will hold up against better defenses. Our LT could have been called for about 10 holds today.

Pretty sure that I mentioned this during the summer. Then I got blasted. Thank God Iowa does have much of a pass rush. Wisconsin and Northwestern scare me a little

McSorely is more elusive than Armstrong.

He didn't fail at Tennessee. He left them holding the bridal gown, which pissed them off. He failed at USC, but we're no USC. He also failed with the Raiders, but what do we care about NFL jobs. So did Saban, maybe even worse. My honest thought (even though I give it a 0.005% chance of ever happening) is maybe he's matured, maybe he's looking for something long term and we could offer that. The moving on in 2 years mentality may be something of the past since he saw what happened. That said, he could be a complete bust. But I'd be on board for giving him a try. Claeys could be gone by the end of this year if things don't improve fast.

Pj fleck worries me. He's not an xs and os guy

This may be a little heavy for this conversation, but I'm trying to be honest.

In the grand scheme of things, today's game doesn't mean squat. Yeah, I would be very happy to see the Gophers become a stronger FB program - one that contends for conference and national honors. But, there are no guarantees in life. There are generations of Cub fans who have been born, lived and died without every seeing the Cubs win a World Series. Ultimately, being a fan - at least in my definition - means supporting a team. it doesn't mean "I will only support the team if they win and if they play the way I want them to play."

If the Gophers go 8-0 the rest of the season, I will root for them to win. If they go 0-8 the rest of the season, I will still root for them to win. But, it really doesn't affect my life in any meaningful way. It only impacts my life if I let it.

A football game is a football game. Real life is real life.

And now the kicker - this is what I mean by real life. Came home for lunch on Friday, checked my e-mail, and I had an e-mail from my sister - informing me that one of my cousins - a very successful and well-respected retired doctor - had killed himself. That's real life. Compared to that, Mitch Leidner throwing an interception doesn't mean squat.

My advice - forget about the stinkin' Gophers for the rest of the weekend. Hug your kids, kiss your spouse, and tell the people you love that you love them, because none of us know what tomorrow might bring. And now, I'm going to escape reality for a while and watch the first episodes of "Luke Cage" on Netflix. Shorty out.

The QB we face next week is better.

any more info? i dont know much about him but id be down for a high energy recruiter with ties to an important state like illinois. (assuming of course he can actually coach football unlike brewster)

Man, I plan to fire a few questions at Claeys on his show tomorrow night. I would guess that I am not the only fan who has that intention. Maybe on will get an answer...

A bunch of chicken littles.

Sorry about your cousin...that's awful. And you're completely right in this take, of course. I spent most of the weekend at a men's conference at my church. Reminded me what's important on my life: giving 100% in marriage, fatherhood, at work, and in my faith. The Gophers disappointed me today, but following them is just a hobby. Can't let it become more than that. Thanks for providing perspective and reminding me tonight...

By his own admission he's more motivator than xs and os

Perhaps someone beat me to it, but i'm asking anyway...

but, CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHY AYINDE STILL SEES THE FIELD?

might be a great kid, but the dude cannot play football. Going back
to last year, he's been a huge liability, but we refuse to play McGhee,
Dior or Huff more. Somehow #4 still get sent out there to give up Tds..
