Didn't see any of these made yet so figured I'd start one. Mods please merge if needed.

So, that was a downright frustrating loss, more frustrating than any of the losses last year for the most part. Last year, when we lost close ones vs Michigan and Iowa, at the very least they were solid teams.

Breaking it down further, there were already problems in the first half. Obviously the drive where there was a holding penalty where the Gophers settled for a field goal instead of a touchdown was huge. However, the end of the first half was OK. MN had that last minute drive, kicked the field goal, had a 10 point lead on the road against a Big Ten opponent. Fair enough.

Second half, more or less, was a complete disaster in my view. The missed tackle on that 80 yard touchdown was awful, and the sequence of events after made it even worse. It was such a quick swing of momentum. Then, despite attempts to get the game back in order, some of Brooks' runs for example, the Gophers just couldn't find their groove again.

The final drive in regulation by PSU was terrible defensively. It was so frustrating to watch MN get beat in that last minute. The overtime wasn't much better, a horrible 3 and out and that last run was painful to watch.

From start to finish, Minnesota looked like the better team that just let PSU hang around. So many opportunities wasted, not enough good execution from either side of the ball, especially against a team missing so many line backers.

I try not to be a guy who says the sky is falling, I don't want to say "we're going to lose every other game now." I remember in 2013 when we bounced back for a nice run. Right now, though, it's hard to feel optimistic.

No killer instinct against a team just begging to be thrashed. Unacceptable. Hope Claeys likes heat because of Coyle isn't starting to make calls I'd be really suprised

Another stellar 6-6 season for the gopher lads and toilet bowl matchup against New Mexico,...East Peqout lakes, etc...., Will the misery ever end for a long time-suffering loyal fan????

Not this year. I'm sorry to say all our rivals are licking their chops. Iowa may very well win by 20+ next weekend.

Said it last year after the Northwestern game too.

We wait all year for this?

Tough pill to swallow.

This is the ceiling of this Coaching staff. I mean if the U wants to be mediocre, then the status quo is good. But then what's the point? Hire a real head coach.

You pretty much summed up my thoughts perfectly. I like doing good, bad, ugly, but I'm too freaking pis$ed right now. I expected to lose this game because 1) it was the first road game, 2) we're playing several true FR and JUCO's, and 3) the injuries and suspensions. But after watching the first 20+ minutes, I couldn't believe how bad PSU was. Horrible O-Line, horrible playcalling, inaccurate QB, slow LB's (and 3 starters missing),etc. This was a huge missed opportunity, make no mistake about it. Offense put up almost 500 yards but only managed a measly 26 points, which included a couple long FG's. Defense got ZERO pass rush, made several horrible penalties, lost contain on the QB multiple times, and continually gave up long passes on busted plays. This was beyond frustrating. I think MN can beat Iowa next week, but right now I have a hard time seeing anything more than 6 wins.

We are exceptionally undisciplined.

If we continue to play this way, we will probably win two conference games - Purdue and Rutgers. Maryland is better than us right now. Iowa is better. Northwestern is better. Of course Nebraska and Wisconsin are better. I think this could be a massive failure of a season unless these guys get their heads on straight and the coaching improves by leaps and bounds.

Penn State is a REALLY BAD FOOTBALL TEAM and we got it taken to us in the second half by them. We should've been running the ball down their throats and instead we were getting redzone interceptions and no o-line help. I'm afraid.

Tough loss. Team will be mad and will blow out Iowa next week. Everyone relax.

This team will finish the year 8-4 and head to a fun bowl game. Bank on it

im onboard with this 100%.

put this **** in the rearview mirror we gotta circle the wagons and retake floyd

Going with the walk on kicker as MVP. He was rock solid.

I'm not a "sky is falling" kind of guy. I didn't expect us to go undefeated or anything this year. I was thinking it would likely be a 6-8 win regular season and I still think that is likely.

And therein is my concern. In a year with the softest schedule we've had in a long time with a 5th year senior QB, I'm expecting 6-8 wins?

My fear is a SLOW regression under Claeys. I'm afraid he'll win just enough to hang on for a long time because of the conception that we can't get a good coach (after being rejected by a multiple of coaches in 2011). This will lead to a downward spiral where we won't recruit very well and then when we finally do move on from Claeys, coaches really won't be interested because of the lack of talent and then the next coach will be starting back where Kill took over from Brewster and we'll never get any better.

Obviously, I hope we beat Iowa and everyone else on our schedule. Given the choice, however, I might take a 1-8 conference record over a 3-6 conference record if that means that we can move on to finding a big-time college football coach.

Every week will be similar in game. It's who we are. Have to hope we're on better end. Enjoy season of ups and downs and decide in December where we're going.

The good

Brian Smith emerges as a possession receiver
Rushing game was working for most of the game, with notable exceptions
Carpenter is a legit FG kicker.
The hit on fat-boy
Two minute offense
'Toine Winfield is a player
Barkley held to 60 some yards on 20 carries.

The Bad

Let's just skip to the ugly

The ugly

335 pass yards allowed.
Complete failure to contain or spy the QB despite repeated big plays.
Said QB running for 10yards per rush on 8 carries. (He had close to 0 on the year)
Our defensive line had no push and allowed themselves to be washed upfield time after time.

I thought the D-line played really well.

I agree with everything else though, especially #4.

This was a disappointing loss but hardly a "sky is falling" loss. There was a lot to be encouraged by and we still have any easy schedule. We can still win a lot of games.

I don't get the "Coyle should be making calls" posts at all. We weren't even favored.

Do we win today if our players say no to gang bangs?

Already starting to get over it.....couple more days and I'll be back to normal. (35 penalties in 4 games is a bit much though)

Last year, fifth season of a new program, Gophers win five in regular season. This year, with much easier schedule, they'll be lucky to win six. Consistently, Kill regime teams can't put opponents away. Every game, even against weak non-cons, seems to go to the wire. Today, every time the defense absolutely had to make a stop, they couldn't. Some decent play-calling on offense, but way too many runs between the tackles for nothing. Not a lot of imagination shown on offense. And you have to be concerned when a freshman QB kills you with long passes.

Concerned if our OL will hold up against better defenses. Our LT could have been called for about 10 holds today.
