Perception is probably coming from those randoms who complain that she shoots too much (even though Dawn P has mentioned a few times that they want her to look for her shots) she dribbles too much (more than 3 dribbles disrupts the flow of the offense, as opposed to setting up more options as often as not), and seem to think that any type of athletic move to create a shot is just setting yourself up for a turnover. You know; the "One mistake erases 10 positives" crowd. Sometimes that one mistake actually IS a turning point, but some folks believe that EVERY mistake erases 10 positives. Not to mention the fans for whom, "If it doesn't look like the style I believe in, then it's a mistake".
From what I've seen, if Amaya isn't scoring, distributing and defending at a very high level, the Gophers pretty much struggle. When she is doing 2 of the 3 effectively, the Gophers are a pretty good team. Remember, other than keeping GG from getting good looks from outside, Amaya has been at the top of every teams scouting report for the past 2 seasons. I'm pretty happy with what I see her doing on the court; overall she's very solid and sometimes spectacular; and she seems like a pretty put together person off the court as well.
