metrodome roof collapses

yeah, I guess eyewitnesses are saying only moments after it happened a dozen or so drunk people scurried out of the building, shamefully putting their black and gold clothes back on.

Hopefully the swat team is inside checking the rest rooms.

This is an absolute dream scenario for the Wilf's and the stadium effort. The national media will be all over this story and will create some major urgency on the issue.

Go Gophers!!

Yep. Wouldn't overstate it, but it does help. Although if the MSFC has to deplete their funds repairing it, they can't use that money. But that's more insignificant compared to the political goodwill.

Doesn't matter. This is more likely to hasten the Wilf's recognition that they need to move! The State and city/county cupboards are bare. Can you imagine Hennepin County holding talks about reducing teachers/police at the same session in which they recommend spending $$$ in a new Vikings stadium? Ain't gunn a happen.

Ed Werner will be reporting live from dome coming up next on espn

Straw-man argument. No stadium proposal has ever been to build a stadium with money from the state or county general fund. If it is done, it will be with user-fees who benefit from the stadium. Rental cars, hotels, bar/restaurant and memorabilia, etc. The only non-user fee possibility is the Racino.

Any chance the game gets moved to TCF? Not sure how they would handle tickets.

Probably refund everybody and do first come first serve at the Bank. That's what I would do.

Right. Because we have enough parking, midweek, to support a first come-first serve sh!tfest like that.

I feel your pain - I too once had to play the awful parking game. However - I doubt that will even cross anybody's mind if the Bank gets the game.

How much would it cost to expand TCF to the 72,000 and add a rectractable roof. Would this be less than a new outdoor NFL stadium. Could it be done for 300-400 million.

So when I take my wife to Minneapolis to watch concerts or plays the taxes I will be paying for the hotels, restaurants, and bars will go to build a new stadium for the Purple? No thanks. I will go to Chicago instead. I like the Bears better anyway. They are a real football team who play in a real football stadium. Not a collection of prima donnas who play indoors.

Correction. Your bears once had a real football stadium. That eyesore is an abomination compared to the true Soldier Field. Why did they put a queer-looking spaceship on top of that football stadium?

I f-ing hate both teams, but the Packers did their renovations/upgrades/expansions of Lambeau a thousand times better than what Chicago did. That building shouldn't even be called Soldier Field anymore.

And some of the vikes are prima donnas, but it has nothing to do with the fact that they play indoors.

God, it would suck if the Vikings get the new stadium because of this.

I'd rather be forced to watch the 2003 Michigan game on a continuous loop for the rest of my life than to see TCF Bank used for the Vikings on a permanent basis.

That ship has sailed. MSP needs a major indoor venue to replace the Dome. It's not just about the Vikings.

Um OK? I'm sure many will join you in taking their entertainment dollars to Chicago. That makes sense!

Yeah, you and 12 other special Gopher fans would be very upset. The rest of us would be happy for the Vikings.

Really josh? Based on all your earlier comments, I've always thought you to be a pro-Vikes guy. Hmm, must have misjudged you.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Bears-Vikes next Monday night at TCF or in beautiful Bear weather for a second time?

I'd love to see tomorrows game at TCF. I realize there are hurdles like the Vikings don't know the section, row, and seat numbers but they could get the help of the Gopher ticket offi......never mind.

Vikes/Dome news conference at approx 10:45 am. Wcco am will carry at least part of it live.

Looks like the game to watch will be Pats @ Bears. 3-5 inches of snow, winds 30 and gusts to 50.

google "larry silverstein" AND "pull it" in google video....I suspect the Wif's did the same thing...

Doesn't matter where or how they collect the tax money! No one will stand for an increase in taxes on anything right now for a Vikings stadium, even user fees or restaurant taxes. The Vikings are not getting a new stadium in Minnesota for the next 10 years period. Unless, of course, Wilf et al just build it on their own nickel.

Of course LA and the State of California are in worse fiscal shape than Minnesota. I've heard the Rose Bowl needs a bigger budget to fix than does the Metrodome.
