Max

It’s more an ownership problem:
They pulled 14 wins out their ass but weren’t a real contender.
And double down on an old roster with a bad OL

Haven’t been able to replicate
Really hard to thread the needle on the never actually rebuild plan.
And as the Steelers have shown, hard to win a Super Bowl that way. (Though they’ve gotten two since the 90s)
They tried to fix the Oline and Kwesi got fleeced by the Colts.

I think they want to rebuild without ever taking a step back.
Kwesi too bad at drafting
Too expensive to build depth via free agency.

I think it’s more on the roster than the coach.

Actually that's exactly what happened in in 22. That was an extremely lucky team.

Last year was a better team, but here we are now.
It’s pretty middling roster that’s getting older
May have been better if they went 10-7 last year so they realized it was a middling roster

This year it’s a middling roster with no QB play and even less depth.

Made the roster even older with the O line signings. Gambled and lost there big time.

KAM needs to go yesterday but coach hasn't been great. Wasn't the play caller in LA and shouldn't be here.
He’s called a lot of good games. But has been exposed in playoff games and when the team is out of rhythm sometimes they never find it.

I hope they move on from GM and then new guy gives him a 1-2 year run

I like KOC, but playcalling has been suspect and not playing McCarthy preseason is inexcusable after what we've seen. It's a perfect storm of suck.

An ownership problem?

An ownership problem??

Good god, do you think for even five seconds before you just spill whatever nonsense comes to mind?

Can't ask for better ownership than the Wilfs.
They spend on everything. Provide every resource. Stay out of the way.

The Vikings do not have an ownership problem.

Yikes, felt a little bad for Max, it was brutal. Our Kevinly Father said he was processing too fast, whatever that means

Agreed. Darnold for $100M wasn't the answer. He's a "shrinker" when it matters like Cousins was. Besides, at already the highest player salary budget in the NFL, I don't think that contract was even a consideration. Some of that is on Jefferson commanding a giant contract.

The problem has been in every decision made since Darnold walked. This includes the head coach running one of the most pass heavy QB dependent offenses in the NFL with a QB room that started the year with 2 rookies and a washed up veteran that didn't even have a pre-season. It doesn't work.
They absolutely botched the back-up QB spot. It's like after Jones went to Indy they decided they didn't care.

Yeah. If the ownership doesn’t want a real rebuild it’s going to be tough to get over the hump

I like how you used italics to show your emotion. Good job sweetie

In my years of watching football this was legitimately amongst the saddest I've felt after a game. Max was so awesome for our program seeing him get an opportunity with the big boys and for it to go so poorly was really tough to stomach. Hope he's got a good support system (I'm sure he does) and somehow can have another opportunity in the future although that seems quite unlikely.

Agreed, but I think Max might get another shot. Not because he earned one (he did not), but because as of right now, he is still the QB2 on an NFL team behind an injury-prone (and also awful) QB1.

Didn’t we trade our 3rd rounder for Thielen?
That was approximate value arched to him per a talking head IIRC.

I don’t know if that mythic third rounder would have to be for the upcoming draft. A future one or if we have it for next year.

I’m still trying to wrap my head around that this is the first time we’ve been shut out since Brooks Bollinger was the QB; the Jets are starting to look good to me at this point🤷‍♂️

When I typed my response it was more with frustration with our GM than nitpicking your potential trade.

We not only have minimal talent, we don't even have a ton of draft capital to help.

So KOC can coach some years and not others? There is no talent on OL or at the QB position. Now if it was his call to keep certain players then by all means blame him, otherwise the front office, starting with the GM, should be shown the door.

Yet another in a long line of "quarterback whisper" has fallen ... again ... like every dang other one.

And yet when the next one arrives, gets lucky with a series of QBs, folks will declare him the true "quarterback whisper".

I'm late to the party had to watch the recording. That was tough to watch. Not sure if Max will ever get another shot after that unfortunately.
It was a brutal first start in a tough situation for any QB much less one with no experience. He won't have teams blowing up his agents phone trying to sign him but he may earn another opportunity at some point down the line.
