He is a pro stle qb kill likes dual threat guys so why would we keep him?
 

Kill said he'd honor commitments Brewster made. The question is, wouldn't Max figure out that it's possible he'll switch positions or sit on the bench and change his commitment?
 

Because we honor our prior commitments. It is good to keep your promises to recruits even when you change coaches. Recruits, future ones see this and appreciate a programs loyalty.
 

Because Kill said day one that he would honor all current offers. I'm sure Shortell knows what kind of offense Kill likes to run. If he feels it's not for him, he should look elsewhere. At this point, I think it's up to Shortell.
 

From the sounds of it, Shortell is a big fan of Kill, I can see him keeping his commitment.
 


It doesn't really surprise me that Shortell would like Kill. Shortell is a Kansas boy and Kill is all Kansas, born there, raised there, started out his coaching career there and has maintained deep roots inside the state of Kansas. It seems like these Kansas boys like to stick together when possible to do so.
 

I don't think Kill really stresses a dual threat qb. Harnish only ran for 229 yrds. last year. His QBs at SIU weren't that great of runners either. Max looks like a very legit qb prospect, I'm happy he's sticking with us.

Harnish ran for 840 yards.

However, I think Kill just likes guys who are at least relatively athletic and he will also adjust his offense accordingly. I think Shortell is athletic enough to fit into the offense.
 

Kill said he likes 'Athletic QBs' not particularly dual-threat. From the sounds of it, Shortel IS athletic. Just because he is 6-6 and is pro-style, doesnt mean he isnt athletic. Same goes for Moses Alipate, he may not be dual-threat, but he is very athletic. Both will do fine with Kill.
 



How do we know Shortel will stay at QB?
Doesn't Kill like recruiting QBs and then moving them to other positions? Could be way off the mark here, but it's something to consider.
By the way, I like what I've seen from Kill so far. I agree that he needs to mine the entire state for the big guys and also the occassional diamond-in-the-rough WR/RB, such as a Decker or Barber.
In doing so, Kill will miss some guys--it's only natural for some kids to want to go away for college. Let's not panic when that happens. Kill will not completely close the doors to outside schools, hardly anyone can do that.
 

Simple.

Kill's offense can be changed to fit the athletes he has to put on the field. He said that in his very first press conference. He will tweak and change things how he sees fit. Kill is supposed to be a good coach he has proven that every step up the coaching ladder he has made. I would think he can plug in a more Pro Style passer and still make things work. He may find that he will need a better passing QB than runner in the Big Ten compared to his previous stops.
 







You also don't want to lose Shortell because he comes from a talent rich high school in Bishop Meige that is coached by Tim Grunhard. I'm sure Coach Kill does NOT want to lose the pipeline to Meige. Meige has brought out such talent in the last couple years like WR Justin McCay to Oklahoma, DE/OLB Shane Ray to Missouri, OL Phil Ford to Kansas, Max Shortell to Minnesota and Trevor Releford was a very talented football player, but is now the starting PG for Alabama as a freshman.

At worse, you bulk up Shortell further and move him to TE.
 

The whole premise of this post is that Kill is less than enthusiastic about having Shortell in the 2011 class, which is absurd.

No one has any basis for believing this. And the idea that Kill would not want (what one recruiting service considers) a Top 25 QB doesn't jive with logic.

The odds are overwhelming that Shortell will be competing to be the starting QB in 2013.
