Max Brosmer and Quinn Carroll commit to playing in bowl game

I just assumed Max would, makes sense, he's finishing out his career / wants to play.

Won't blame anyone else who has different ideas for not playing. It is what it is now, you see who you're going to see, and maybe some new folks get some time.

I'm not surprised, but I'd rather Brosmer sits this one out and get Lindsey some more game experience (if he's the guy for next year).
No me -- I hope all our guys play. Let's win. I think talk about our winning streak in bowl games is overblown, because it's mostly due to us playing in Phoenix, New York and Detroit rather than Tampa or Orlando. But I'd still rather win than lose. Also, it's a good look that most of our guys play. Maybe they can get Lindsey in for a series or two.

Maybe a whole quarter, or two? Second quarter or part of first into the second and leave it open to play the fourth if our Gophers are up big.

I get that a lot of people think of bowl games as exhibitions. They started that way and with early departures, transfers, playoffs, and prep for the NFL combine - bowl games seem to be returning to those exhibition roots.

But for now they still count in the season record and they are still actual games. As long as that is true, absolutely try to win the damn things with the players that will best give you that chance. Winning is still the object of the game.

I want to win the game. But often you see QB2 at least get a couple series in the bowl games.

Yup, totally agree. Let Lindsey get all the first team practices and coach him up. It’s Lindsey time imo.

I would love to see him get some work in but I'm not sure one bowl game is that big of a progress boost in his development.

Not like he hasn't been practicing ...

And to answer the next question, yes, we talk'n bout that:

Kind of a raw deal for Brosmer to bring him here, have him be arguably the MVP, and then tell him he can't participate in the bowl game. Good luck getting a quality transfer QB in the future
You have totally raw QB next year then. Unless you go porta next year also. If Max Brosmer is a NFL qb I guess it’s a different story..

I'm not saying it wouldn't be good for Lindsey, I'm saying it would be a slap in the face to Brosmer

A great coach once said “you play to win the game”, which seems reasonable

I think the 'sitting out bowl games' thing will go away with the new playoff format.

To be honest he should have been in RI, Nevada and Maryland game. But Coach Fleck has no good judgement when to give back ups playing time. He’s proven over and over he’s lacking in that area.
I've always thought that about Fleck. I think he plays his starters too long in blowouts either way. I could see it when playing a little bit ruined a players red shirt but now with the new rules that is not a factor. Let others show what they can do.

One of the CBS commentators absolutely gushed on Brosmer's quick wrist throwing style as an NFL QB must-have in the skillset.

Whether the rest of the package is there to meet the other QB requirements for an NFL team remains to be seen but he was convinced on that measure.

Anywho, I'd forgotten that we are now in the "playing the bowl game or sitting out" part of the season. I've somewhat reconciled the portal and NIL and their impacts on CFB but am still not quite there on sitting out (which has been there all along). It is a measure of individual fealty to the team.

Glad that Max and Quinn are setting a standard early and we'll see. It would be fun if Ersery stayed and got to run that trick play in the bowl game successfully. Everything I've seen post-game indicates it was not a bad call per se but PSU No. 11 just did not line up correctly for it and Max had to abort. Sitting in the stands it did not look good but I don't blame Coach for the call. Credit to PSU and their red zone defense.

That USC QB who replaced Williams threw 6 TDs in their bowl game last year. Lots of good that did - he got benched during the season this year.

Let Brosmer play and audition for the NFL. If he doesn't make it, at least his last game wouldn't have been riding the bench.

For the playoff games yes, but for the other bowls it'll probably exacerbate the issue since they are now even more irrelevant.

Hell we were excited by AK when he got several games under his belt .... yeah about that ...

IMO you give the QBs all the help you can give them, but good QBs are largely born, not something you can make better with game time.

Did he not participate in the Rhode Island game? Yes he did.

Perhaps he didn't play more because they didn't want to burn his redshirt unless they had to due to injury?

Normally I would agree but Max was an FCS transfer so I would definitely rather see him play most of the game.

For a non-playoff game, no one cares so I didn't even consider that as a possible downside. I think where people have issues is when players sit in a top 10 team so games like the Rose Bowl lose significance. People sitting out of the Duke's Mayo bowl doesn't bother anyone.

If Max wants to play in the bowl...that's cool! 100% He should have the opportunity.
But, if he decided to train for the combine, stay healthy or whatever his reason would have been not to participate it would have been nice to get next years' QB some experience.

It makes a huge difference. The whole off season the understanding from game action of what you need to focus on, the excitement that the team is counting on you isn't just maybe...it is real. Imo that makes a big difference. A million % it did increase the development for kids coming back in high school versus the ones who just moved up from JV without any varsity game time.

Unless PJ is going to the portal for a QB...then Max will play the whole game.
