Max Brosmer 2025 NFL Draft: Scouting Report For Minnesota Golden Gophers QB

Shedeur Sanders said he isn't going to practice for or play in the Shrine Bowl, so that should help Brosmer get more reps.

Max, Shedeur, and Kurtis Rourke (injured) were the 3 original West team invites, so that means Max has a good chance to start this game. Mizzou's QB also got invited to replace Rourke.

Profile makes sense. Thought it was funny that nobody was complaining about his arm strength this year. For all people complained about Tanner’s arm strength, he threw downfield far more often than Brosmer did this year
To be fair, if Max had R Bateman and T Johnson to throw to, he'd have more downfield throws.

Back up quarterback in the NFL might be the best job in professional sports. Excellent living, little contact, and always a fan favorite because you never get on the field. If he can be a holder, it might be even better.
Blaine Gabbert made $27M holding a clipboard for most of his career.

Blaine Gabbert was a 1st round pick with an initial contract of $12 mil. Hopefully Brosmer ends up with half of that, which would still be amazing

Yes and no. Gabbert played 12 years so his subsequent contracts were pretty low relatively speaking.

There have been 127 QBs drafted in the 5th round or later since 2000. I will not do the math, but I can guarantee their annual contract value is nowhere near Gabbert's (except for Tom Brady and Ryan Fitzpatrick).

I'm not disagreeing with you, I hope Brosmer has a long NFL career. I'd just be willing to bet $27 mil that he won't make $27 mil

Oh there's others who were not drafted who have made very good $$. Taylor Heinicke has made $17M in seven years in the NFL.

The QB at St. Johns was over 24, the head coach paid him to come back for a 6th year, while his dad a banker donated a bunch of money. I know 4th year seniors in college stating that is time to move on. The several QB's they had recruited are all leaving or quite, because the OC and head coach recruited graduate transfer players that could not make in elsewhere in order to play Div. III football. Kind of pitiful.
In fairness, your son couldn’t make it at the DIII level(and why you are so mad)so going after guys that play DIIII because they weren’t good enough to play FCS, FBS or DII, seems kind of pitiful.

So they flew him in and are housing him for pro personal to talk to him? Is that normal?

I don't know. Is anything around the Sanders family normal?

I don't recall QBs who were first round locks playing the postseason scouting games in the recent past. I don't know if they went and schmoozed and interviewed or not.

Yes, there are examples of late round/ undrafted QBs making bank as backups/ fringe starters. I'm not arguing that. My argument was using Blaine Gabbert wasn't the best example because he was a first round draft pick, not a pick in the late rounds as where Brosmer is projected.

Definitely has a chance to make half that if he figures out how to stick around for 8-10 years.

The Athletic had a nice little blurb about Brosmer in its review of the East/West Shrine game calling him "the most consistent of the quarterbacks" on the West team and that he's trying to convice teams he worth a draft pick.

As he should. He brings something to the table for NFL teams. It would shock me if he goes undrafted frankly.

I think this is a fair assessment of Max.

The good:

#1-Very football smart kid.
#2- Good leader
#3- Good decision maker
#4- Good accuracy overall
#5- Can be mobile enough
#6- Throws with anticipation

The weaknesses:
#1- For NFL purposes the biggest thing is the arm. He just doesn't have the zip on it for intermediate or long throws.

#2- Accuracy on intermediate/long throws isn't great.

IMO, there's a baseline for minimum arm strength for the NFL and he doesn't have it. However, players can improve that some and there have been other cases of QBs in the NFL that didn't have strong arms like our own Brad Johnson who had a very nice career.

My outlook for Max is he's likely late draft pick or UDFA and may bounce around practice squads and possibly gain a job as a journeyman backup. He seems like the type of guy that could make a really good coach one day and being in and around the NFL for 5 years could really help him there. OTOH, who knows , maybe we have him all wrong.
