I believe him when he says he is well connected in the world of college basketball. He is a smart guy and knows basketball a lot better than I do- that's for sure. I don't doubt that people have passed him that word if he said they did.
This, actually is a great source of my irritation about him. I take him at his word for what he has said here. According to that he is connected, claims to be a Gopher fan, (why I am not sure) yet based on his own words here, I fully believe he is offering advice that is damaging to the program behind the scenes, because things have not been done his way and he doesn't think the coach is any good. You can't have anything more damaging than a person who claims to love the program and badmouths it to people who matter and who may have influence in where recruits go.
Maybe I am 100% wrong, but that is my impression of the situation. Perhaps if we get a Tony Bennett endorsed coach he will change that. Not sure.

Does it matter?

He will likely be drafted second or third round and not make an NBA roster. It's fine though, because he probably made more going to Duke than he will for his first couple years in the NBA G league.

I will also congratulate him for playing a year and a third in college ball.

He would instantly be a very famous player if he was drafted in the 3rd round.
 











I think he could sneak into the end of the first round. He can shoot and he is 6'9. He is mobile.
1st Team All ACC and most improved player in the ACC suggests he is willing to work and can get better. NBA draft is a lot on potential and I think can get better. His 18 ppg led the ACC.

That sure did not work out for Hurt by playing for Duke. Just an average team, at one time the Gophers had a better team before the injury bug hit. Oh well, not feeling bad for Hurt one bit.

He was a toxic slime ball on the OTB. Came back recently as "minigopher", and was banned after less than a week I believe.

Easy. They both were consumed with themselves. They both put an "I" in team. They both will be in the NBA. Hurt will need to have an NBA vet (like Humphries had Dirk) who shows them that you don't stick in the league if you don't dedicate yourself to the craft. Humphries stayed in the league because he figured out his niche and honed those skills. Hurt will need to do the same thing. Otherwise, Hurt is out of the league in a few years at best.

That was a fine season and his overall composite advanced stats at Duke also were quite good for his two years there.

However, Hurt was the RSCI consensus #6 player in the country in the fall of his senior year (he slipped to #12 after his senior year). When you're that highly rated these days, having a very good college career is not the most important goal. Of the top 11 in that fall-of-senior-year ranking, only Hurt and #9 Khalil Whitney remained undrafted after two years following their prep careers.

Right now, one could say that Hurt is in the same position as McKinley Wright; trying to earn an eventual spot by way of a two-way contract. McKinley Wright was nowhere to be found among the RSCI top 100 at the beginning of his senior year of high school. 247 rated him as the #229 player in the country.

So, Truth Seeker is more or less correct. Hurt was overrated given his lofty ranking as a prep. I guess we could also say that McKinley Wright was underrated.
