Marcus: Trent Lockett will not transfer to Minnesota

The assumption that some seem to be making is that Lockett's main desire in life was to play for Tubby Smith, but being the great man he is, Tubby just couldn't bring in Trent because he refused to talk to his players about their role on the team going forward.

I wouldn't think more than 2% made that assumption.

How would you know if Tubby talked to his players about their roles?

You are wondering if GW still thinks Lockett had a high TO rate last year?

Ha. Touche. Stated more clearly, I'm wondering if GW still thinks Trent Lockett sucks now that he's likely going to Marquette (his favorite team), instead of Minnesota (a team that nobody can figure out why he even follows).

Haha. I knew what you were saying, I was just thinking what GWs response would be!

I certainly have seen that line of thinking displayed in posts on the GopherHole. That said, I wish more people would look at it from Lockett's point of view: He'd come to Minnesota and be no better than 4th in the pecking order behind Mbakwe, Williams, and 'Dre. Lockett is also used to playing 35 minutes a game and it's unlikely he would get those minutes under Tubby. If the goal is to showcase himself for the NBA, Minnesota is not a good fit.

The assumption that some seem to be making is that your main desire in life is to be an insufferable turd with an inexplicably and unnecessarily large ego. And they're right.

Seriously, who every said or even assumed that Trent's main goal in life was to play for Tubby, or anything like that even? I've read just about every post on here about it, and that's not close to the sentiment at all. When the story broke, it was that Trent wanted to play close to home to be with his mother. The U is the closest program to his home. Thus, we were a likely potential destination for Trent. It's too bad us sheeple haven't attained your plane of awareness to understand that Trent's desire all along was to play for Tubby, and not be close to his ailing mother.

Clearly, there's more to the story as it has unfolded (Gonzaga is not all that close to MPLS, after all), but absolutely no one made the assumption that Trent's main goal was to play for Tubby.

You're relentless antagonism and preening would make even the most hated wrestling heels blush. It's ridiculous.

Wow well said.

That said, I wish you would look at it from Lockett's point of view: He'd come to Minnesota and be able to visit his mom and family every day if he wanted to.

Great point! And in reality Lockett has more well-rounded skills than Williams, Dre and maybe even Mbakwe. He will get much more playing time elswhere though because Tubby doesn't exactly cater to "star" players.

I also think people need to get over the thought that Lockett is transferring to be closer to his ailing mother. Gonzaga is a plane ride away while Ames and Milwaukee aren't exacly around the corner.

Was hoping it could work out somehow, Lockett becoming a Gopher. It would have strengthened the Gophers. But best of luck to him. My only hope now is that within the next few weeks (spring semester ends in a few weeks) we don't hear of another Gopher player transferring, opening up a spot that could have been available now.

Great post.

He will end up here one way or another. Mark my words. Muhaha

Let's not turn this into an MU/UW pissing match (maybe we can arm-wrestle about it later today  ), and I am sure there is more to all stories, but if Bo is going to get hammered for the Uthoff transfer, Buzz should probably answer a few questions about these situations. Here are some of Durley's recent tweets:

April 17 - "...I'm going to Marquette..."

April 20 - "It's hurts... I'm not gonna lie... But it's just Fuel to My Fire thats gonna drive me to become the best I can be"

Something changed. Maybe Trent Lockett's visit on April 18-19?

With Newbill and Rosboro, I knew Newbill had transferred again, did not not know Rosboro had. Perhaps it was because they had so little time to find a school after MU released them in July and August (I believe), respectively?

GW must still be in the box you put him in. Nice work.
