Man. Marcus is just a great guy and I cannot even imagine not seeing him at every hoops game. Very sad about this move. He's been such a staple at The Barn since I was even in the Barnyard. :(

This has to be viewed as a demotion, right? Maybe they’ll shift a T-Wolves beat writer to the Gophers.
In days gone by, it might have been a family related move to get off the road, but as speculated above, I think Strib was too cheap to send him on the road.

For those mocking, I’m curious how many of them have done the same thing for the same employer for 20 years. That’s a long haul by 21st century standards.

I talked to Marcus once years ago, and he said he liked the features part of media and it sounds like he might get a shot to tell stories and not just report data. Good luck to him.

I’m confident we’ll get better coverage by whoever takes over for Marcus.
What if they re-hire Myron P Metcalf? Marcus was pretty good overall, even if he wasn't the most objective in his coverage of Ben.

It's pretty common for the Strib print edition Sports Page to be literally that, 1 singular piece of paper.

Folded equivalent of 4 pages.

Rumor is the Strib is putting more of their eggs in the high school sports/recruiting news basket and Marcus is going to be a lead writer/contributor on that front. Strib has also partnered with a production company that does a lot of high school sports live streaming. Going to try to compete with the recruiting websites, who get people to pay them for info, as well as streaming companies who get people to pay for game webcasts. Among recruiting news, high school sports stories, and live high school games being webcast, there are a lot of paying customers feeding money to sources other than the Strib. The cash-poor Strib is trying to cash in on some of that market. To that, I say good luck.

I can see Ryan Johnson saying, "Nice Newspaper you got there, would be a shame if something happened to it"
