Malachi Palmer commits

Yeah, you're right. Evans and Groves came out of nowhere
Palmer, Kordel, Grady, Stephens, Turner, Willis, Reynolds, Vaihola were all unknown. Not sure on Drurkin. JCJ made sense but none of the other CSU followed.

If we go back to CBJ days, most were unknown.

So yes, outside of a couple of kids where there was fire, unless you're some sort of insider, most here have zero clue.

Academics is now waaaaay down on the list of requirements for most players on power four teams.
1. How much am I being paid
2. Playing time
3. Head coach
4. Potential team success
5. Academics
For power 4 level talents in the transfer portal I would rank it like this:

Top factors - $$$ and playing time

big gap

Head Coach, Team Success

massive gap

Academics

We have a few of those--Winters Grady, Nolan Groves, Palmer, and hopefully Nolen Anderson, Kai Shinholster develop into that utensil. More upside (?) than Odukale/Langston Reynolds mold because these guys can stretch the floor.

Is he a guard or a 4?

Palmer’s strength allows him to switch onto bigger players, but he’s athletic enough to defend smaller ones. Palmer does a lot of the little things in the hustle departments as well, drawing some comparisons to former Wildcat Jermaine Samuels for both his build and his playstyle. It’s easy to see the potential as he heads into his junior season.

More physical than Evans, more proven point production than Grady and Groves at the college level. Like I said in the Kai threads...I expected a guard addition...just probably not one with this combination of potential and experience. Great add to the roster. But, also a work in progress...very inconsistent.View attachment 43989
This is where, I believe, Niko’s constant movement on offense will help develop consistency. Malachi won't have to hunt for his own shot nearly so often. His shot will open up in the flow of the offense. That issue of consistency will be much more consistent under Niko.

I'm not saying he is steph curry, but I'd hazard a guess that playing 38 minutes a game, without a true PG, and needing to be more of volume shooter than was expected hurt that number. If we stay healthier next year and have multiple options I think its near a lock to see that number go up.

Agreed. But he isn’t a good shooter now. He can improve with better looks no doubt.

I am excited for Palmer. We already have one good defensive guard in Asuma, we have a good post defender in JCJ, and now we have a strong, athletic wing, who can probably guard 3 positions in Palmer. There will be nights when a wing/forward is just killing us, and the coach now has options.

Exactly. Reynolds would be struggling with turnovers or missed shots and coach would have to leave him in

And Groves.
